So the WGC in China has just about finished and Danny Willet , Masters Champion is 37 shots behind the winner , had there been a cut he would have been one of the first on the plane

Didn't turn up at the Ryder Cup, has been poor since the Masters apart from a couple of placing.

Nobody can argue about his ability, but what's going on inside his head?

Too much is the easy answer
Financially, he's set for life, he's a new Dad, he's won a Major.
I suspect he's just mentally taken a back seat for a while.
It's not something that can be turned on and off at that level.
Whether he'll return to former glories will be, largely, down to how much he wants it.

Perfect answer by Imurg. He's currently lost his edge and at that level a 5%drop is all it needs. He was on a hot run before the Masters so that win was not a fluke but getting back to that level again is all between his ears.

Think that's about summed up well

It was a very unexpected win and the demands after that win will take its toil for a while

Possibly also mentally tired after a very long year because of the constant media after the Masters win.

A bit of time off over winter and getting through the Masters would see him back playing at a decent level again

Possibly the same with Jimmy Walker

Spot on Id say, specially the new dad bit thats probably got his attention at the moment now he has achieved one of the goals of a pro golfer his mind has prob switched off that little bit and focusing on the family

jury is still out for me .
will he have the mental strength to rise again ?
who knows ,but it would be a shame if he turned out to be yet another one hit wonder.

He has always been a streaky player, its worth remembering that aside from The masters he only has 4 wins in 8 years.

Spent rather a long time celebrating and enjoying his Masters victory, and who wouldn't.

But I was surprised throughout the season at the number of non-golf events where he was seen rather than playing or practising. (Snooker, Wimbledon, F1 GP etc;).

However, this may yet prove a shrewd move. Do everything once, enjoy your fame, get it out of the system but ultimately glad to get back to what he knows and does best. Golf.

Not certain that he will win any more Majors but I do think he is more than just a "flash in the pan".

Didnt Justin Rose struggle for a while after winning the US Open? For some players winning a first major is just a stepping stone, for others it takes a while to adjust. Look at Darren Clarke. Said he'd reached the top of the mountain after winning the Open and there was nowhere else to go.

Not everyone can be as remorseless as Tiger or Jack.

No need to judge him right now. It takes a huge amount to be at the top, can't just rely on talent.

He has a lot of other things to focus on or are taking his focus.

Judge him in 3-5 years time. If he isn't back to the top then he joins the respected group of players who won a major and had a good if not spectactular career in golf.

he missed the cut umpteen times ont the bounce after turning pro

Flash in the pan, let's not forget he never won, speith lost it and he was there to pick up the pieces. Don't believe anything about all the media attention taking its toll that's all crap....

The only time to be ahead is at the final whistle. Majors last for 72 holes, not 65.

Absolute rubbish! From the 12th onwards Spieth could not handle it whereas Willett kept going. I suppose Faldo didn't win it in '96.

The records will only show :- The Masters 2016. Winner D Willett.

He won a major...so did Todd Hamilton. He isn't and never will be in the same league as McIlroy, he is a very good player who had a very good week.
