Had planned to play tomorrow to get my third card in before our upcoming mens invitation on 19th of the month.
They've just started greens maintenance with a few temps in use and all the other greens have been tined. Damn. I think there are four temps, which rules qualifying rounds out doesn't it??
Might sound stupid, but can a card be handed in from another course to go towards my initial handicap or not??? Really cheesed off 😑😑😑

Yes, you should be able to hand a card in from another course. Maybe cover yourself by speaking to your club And explain it….but you can complete a card and hand it in

In short, yes and yes (probably).

More than 2 temporary greens = not acceptable for handicapping.

With regards to submitting scores from an away course, that would be up to your home club's handicap committee. From CONGU's guidance:
"Scores for initial handicap purposes can be submitted from any measured course at the discretion of the Home Club Handicap Committee.
Complete 9-hole or 18-hole rounds must be played. For the purpose of the initial award of a Handicap Index two 9-hole scores are combined. The maximum hole score for new golfers is par +5 strokes, and holes not completed or scoring above this will be adjusted to par + 5.
There is no requirement for players to pre-register prior to playing a round that is used to determine the Initial Handicap.
Scores for the initial handicap must be marked by a person acceptable to the Home Club Handicap Committee."

Well, finally got my 3rd card in after playing at Highwoods yesterday with Leftie. A good close game, with Leftie beating me 2&1 courtesy of an outrageous putt from off the green on our par 5 17th. Course was looking immaculate, with the greens almost fully recovered from the maintenance work carried out on them last week. Playing a bit slower than usual courtesy of the sanding they received, but that should be gone within the next few days and they will be soon be back to their lightning best.
My new handicap is 17.1. My ego would love it to be a bit closer to the 13.2 last held at Cooden... but when I take into account I'm not getting any younger, together with my lack of golf over the last 3 or 4 years and also the problems I am having with my left foot at the moment, I'll take it.
At least it now means I can play in some "old tappers" open competitions next year.

Bandit!!!!

All jokes aside mate the h/c has no baring on the enjoyment. I know you had a break away from the sport and coming back the biggest thing had to be enjoying the game and if that’s with 17 shots then so be it.

Don't mind the 17 shots, (or more, depending on slope πŸ˜‰), but I just wish I could sort my foot out. It's bloody agony, and is really holding me back. X-rays show nothing, doctors and specialists can find nothing, completely baffled. But like I say, it's agony sometimes, I can hardly walk on it, let alone swing a golf club effectively...😒😒😒

Peripheral neuropathy? Something David suffers from and can be tricky to diagnose.

Have you looked into it maybe being Plantar Faciitis? It's known as policeman's Heel and I've had it twice in my life, hurts like hell. The easiest way to tell is if you're okay walking on it but it's when you stop walking or take the weight off for some time it hurts.
I only found out about my problem being that after someone else told me as the foot looks normal on x-rays or to the eye.
Just looking out I guess! 🀞

Have had x-rays taken Amanda, as they initially thought it might be a hairline fracture of one of my toes, but nothing found.
Was told that a scan would be next but that never took place due to the Covid pandemic.
Have been to see a specialist who came up with an insert for my left shoe to try to alleviate the problem, but after a month or two of using it, it's not really made any difference.
There is no swelling or redness involved, and it can come on at any time.
The pain is almost unbearable sometimes. My pain threshold is pretty high but when this is raging, on a scale of 1-10, it's a 9. I've almost been in tears with it.
The pain seems concentrated on the three smaller toes on my left foot, so you can imagine that a golf swing, with the natural weight transition onto that part of my foot is setting it off.
I've got to be honest though... since starting to play golf more often I don't seem to be getting the pain attacks anywhere near as much as I was whilst at work or relaxing at home.
Prior to that there was hardly a day went by at work where I wasn't in agony with it, so maybe this has been brought on by my lack of exercise when I took a break from the game???
I played on Wednesday with Leftie, and was fine for the first 3 or 4 holes. Then it started. Not unbearable but enough to affect my weight transfer through the ball, and subsequently my distance etc.
When it eased off a bit later in the round, and I could "go for it" a bit more, I had four pars on the trot. So the game is still in there, but this is definitely holding me back from lower scores.

Sounds nasty - have they thought about Morton's Neuroma? I have one on my right foot and when it's not happy it is agony although taking my shoe off alleviates it...not great for golf!

Might be worth trying just taking an insole out when it strikes and see if that helps?
