My mate got married at the weekend and at the reception came over and asked when we are playing then showed me his gift from his uncle, a 2 ball on the Dalmahoy Championship course  so has anyone on here played it ? and if so whats it like ?

That's the East Course Syndey. It's pretty good, quite open (the west is shorter but much tighter) well conditioned and the greens are playing well just now despite the rain. I played there a couple of weeks ago as I get a deal through my employer and it was a decent game of gowf.
Not sure I would call it "championship" standard though, that maybe stretches the definition a bit :D

Used to play there quite often - before the changes to the lst few holes, so that's how long ago it was.

Was really good track - if slightly dull American Hotel course style. Certainly the best of the Marriot Hotel courses. Pays to be a long hitter, though there's a Par 3s (used to be the 15th) that can be a card wrecker. Used to get quite wet at times.

GM played one of their Centenary events there last year and biggest talking point was the state of the greens. they were dire at that time :(

It is an OK course, not as bad as some may think, although not spectacular. I live about 5 miles from it and play a couple of times a year at most through business.

The East course is quite long, about 7500 yds with one really long par 5. The West course is a good bit shorter and tighter, as someone already mentioned.

Great views over Edinburgh on a nice day, nice hotel, decent pro shop

all depends on the condition... it's a lot more variable now than it used to be.

not sure about the relevance of the 'american hotel courses' - it's a long established course rather than the more common new builds you find.

important to play the right tees for you and the conditions as well - it can play veryvlong, or quite short (dry and forward tees)

I play these courses often as my mother-in-law lives near there and I get on free with the voucher I get each year with my golf insurance.
They are not bad tracks, but having played most of the Marriotts I would say they (the Dalmahoy courses) are not their best, top of their pile must be Forest of Arden - Arden course, Breadsall Priory is nice too as is Hollins Hall and St Pierre.

Best thing about the Dalmahoy is that there is a Toby Carvery over the road from the main entrance so if you time it right your can get an all you can eat breakfast before you start and a decent carvery when you finish and avoid the corporate rip-off in the Marriott bar/grill.

Played it 2 years ago, a FREEBIE through a corporate client of one of my pals
I was looking forward to it
Nice entrance, driveway
Breakfast before, fine
The Course ( championship course ) --- was OK , thats about it........unfortunately, much of a much-ness, nothing really memorable about it at all
But it was FREE
Wouldnt hurry back, especially if had to Pay next time

Thread seems to indicate that they give away a lot of free tickets, you have to ask why?

When I played it in the 1960's the 18 hole course was quite decent.

I saw Eric Brown start off 333 against a par of 554 [ I think] against a very young Ray Floyd in a mini Ryder Cup style event before the Senior Service tournament 1967 ish.

I played there last year and quite enjoyed it although I was a bit disappointed. I knew it was a tad on the long side, that made a pleasant change for me, but it was a bit duller than I expected. And, yeah, not quite the championship experience I'd expected. Not that bad though - I'm giving it another go at their open this year....

PM The Craw,he'll give you an honest opinion of the place.....

Dire dire and dire.

Worst greens I have putted on, boring lay out, tatty round the edges, total Derek Whyte apart from 3 or 4 new holes through the trees which were lively and good golf holes.

Its a course where a few dozen bulldozers and lots of earth moving equipment would vastly improve it. Like Dodger I would never be back, even on a freebie!

Was not a lover. they just lengthend it for the sake of it, wasn't even in good knick and that was June, played the Dukes at St Andrews on saturday and that was crap as well, greens were shocking worst ive putted on in years.

Steve,a mate was there ten days ago and said it was utterly horriffic and actually wanted to demand his freebie voucher back!

Said it was wet in places, scruffy, stupidly busy, full of choppers and the greens were mingin.....apart from that I think he had a good day!:smirk:

Alan, the course was dry enough but in poor condition it just as well it cost heehaw with our voucher as i wouldn't pay top dollar for that. We got stuck behind a single golfer who held us up all the way round, the only thing i remember about it was my hang over on Sunday after being in The Rule all night ,haha
