Never thought about it before but, when I saw Rory taking something out of his pocket on the way back from the 18th, I suddenly thought "who marked his card?" Obviously they're not like us mere mortals who mark the card of someone else in the playing group. Is there a shadowy figure in the background marking the card and the pro has to check and agree with him? As I said, it never crossed my mind before.

Always thought they marked the card of an FC. Usually when they show footage in the scoring tent afterwards they can be seen checking with each other. Saw one where the markers score section could be ripped off and checked against your card.

Don't know the answer, but when the North West gang were at Royal Liverpool last year, they had Tigers card from 2006 on the wall, and it was just a little thin thing, nothing like the card we mortals get.

They mark each others card and there is also a scorer following, usually a burd they shake hands with at the end alongside the score banner carrier and bunker raker.

They do swap cards and there's a Scorer that goes around with the group - they radio scores back to the score centre so they can update scoreboards.
There's plenty of ways to check the numbers.

I played on mid am tour at Ganton and they used those small thin cards with tear off pieces. No course info or SI just 21 boxes 1-18 in out and total.

Fellow Comp marks the card and then rips of the bit of paper at the bottom to give to him once signed.

If they had been doing that at Cooden yesterday the airwaves would have been pretty quiet on my front 9 with 9 points!

Another daft question.
If a player looks at a replay on the big screen to find out where his lost ball is, would he be receiving help from an outside agency?
Probably yes, but that's not against the rules in those circumstances. Just like asking a spectator (or in our case, a passer by walking the dog) "Did you see a ball land here?". Just as much an "outside agency" as a tv screen.
