watched a cycle show yesterday and they interviewed the head of cycling s governing body, who said the new threat to cycling isn't drugs but motorized bikes.

apparently batteries and motors are almost invisible on bikes today and they now check all machines at most races.

only been one case caught with a motorized bike, which was a woman who won a Belgian Cyclocross race.

who knew!

Yes saw the programme and have heard of this before.
They actually spend more money on detecting motors than they do on doping which was the most shocking stat of all.

Loving the tour though and expect Froome to win and really hope Cav will get to Paris

not really followed cycling much but noticed there are a fair few UK riders taking part...amazing the change in the sport over here. when i raced the only reg rider in the tour was Sean Yates

Your right Patrick absolutely massive in Britain atm and good to see.
The likes of Cav and Bradley Wiggins and Sir Chris Hoy and many others have taken the sport to a new level and the interest is Phenomenal.
On the track both the men and women have been brilliant for years now and the management have great vision.

what do you think has caused the change?

When i still rode they had just about opened the Manchester Velodrome, so that must have made an impact, i had to make do with Meadowbank/Leicester / Calshot... and then The track leagues at Hearn hill/ Welwyn.

Also road racing in the UK was a way behind France, i spent two summers getting blown out the back of races in Northern France:(

With all the names above and many more as I understand it the government put a lot of money into it.
Getting top coaches in from abroad and better facilities, nutritionists etc.

I suspect what it has come down to is the money that has been spent on the coaches and facilities has allowed people to practice more and move the sport on.
I really don't know how it all works but at the moment most other countries are trying to follow our blueprint so it must and is working.

Money then.

The BCF as was back when i rode were skint... they didn't even have funds to send riders to events and i remember them not sending riders to the track at one Olympics in the late 80's

Lottery funding! They have put a lot of money into the sport and it is one of the few sporting success stories.

Plus Dave Brailsford of course who has revolutionised the coaching.
