Cyber Attack on the NHS - Potential Ransom Demand

The attack has presented itself in Russia, Germany, Japan, Indonesia, Philippines, Spain and is a variant of the WannaCry virus, and is exploiting a MS vulnerability - MS Security Bulletin MS17-010-Critical

According to Missis T 90% of the NHS still uses Windows XP and Microsoft have withdrawn there cover for this two years ago. Don't know if this is owt to do with the severity of the attack though.

Just another symptom of insufficient funding in the NHS.

Yep.

Either fund the NHS fully or privatise the whole thing and have a healthcare system that can handle the stress of the growing and increasing aged UK public.

Hands up who wants the first tax increase?

Whats this to do with a cyber attack?

I'd accept a tax increase to pay for the NHS. Have you seen the model that they're trying to inflict on us??

However, I'd like to see big corporations pay their fair share of the tax burden first. Once that's addressed then I'd attack the far less costly sections, such as benefit cheats........

The problem is, if you squeeze the big companies for more tax they may up stocks out of U.K. And then it doesn't matter what percentage of £0 you tax.

im sure the government are aware of lots of loopholes that are left open currently. But I'm nit as cynical as some to think it's all for brown envelopes.

Is that the kind of virus that finds you, or is that one where someone on the network has to go onto a side or execute a file?

It's too convenient an excuse now. We can't take in the bankers who bankrupted the country as they may up sticks. We can't take on the corporations as they may up sticks. Basically, anyone who earns over a certain amount can treat the general population like sheeite because they're just too powerful. Well I for one am willing to risk it. I keep being told we're still "Great". It's about time we showed it instead of rolling over and having our bellies tickled.

Unless people believe that fair rates of Tax shouldn't apply to everyone?

there are many parts of the NHS which are still using Windows XP, which Microsoft stopped supporting about 3 years ago
If you are going to rely on IT, then you have to invest and that means a rolling program of replacement machines over a 3 or 4 year cycle.

with the volumes the NHS requires, it is a very expensive undertaking indeed, and it needs sorting

There is a reason why I turned down a job working in their IT area - it's a mess , lack of funding doesn't help , the £350mil should help though

I dont for one second think that it is right. But I'm also not sure that I'd be overly chuffed if I was earning significantly more than I am now and had to then pay half of it over in tax.

until loophooes are closed, I don't blame people for doing what they can to best utilise their finances. In the grand scheme of things even with their evasion ploys I would hazard a guess that they still contribute more in tax then a the majority of average joes.

This presumes XP is the threat boundary, which I doubt is the case. Your statement is over-simplified and misleading.

Having said that, each case is individual, but the Gvt does take the security of it's Citizens data quite seriously.

I see this thread has turned into another Robin Hood theme. I thought it was about a cyber attack
