I recently bought a g30. Great driver but the stiff shaft is far to whippy for my liking.

During a round a tried a mates xflex rip tour shaft which had been cut to 44" and the control I had with that was like night and day! Feeling where the head was during the swing was great!

I ordered the same shaft that day and have been hitting fairways ever since!

I can hit fades and draws on demand. Something I could never do with the driver. I have so much confidence now :D

What are your opinions? Have you had success?

90% of amateurs have drivers and putters that are too long! tiger woods is 6ft1" and uses a 44,5" driver which is the average length on tour, when asked why he said its gives him the best control. Im 6ft1" and used a 44.5 driver for 3-4 years now and the difference is amazing, you get more distance as a ball out the middle is better than higher swing speed off centre hit with a driver that is too long, same as putter, cut it to my playing position which was 33" and putting has vastly improved, probably the best two adjustments you can make!

That said and all fine and good but can you explain (or someone equally au fait) what happens to swing weight if I cut the stock G25 shaft which is 45/75 (according to Ping's website)

You'll fractionally adjust the swing weight by a small amount. Whether you notice is a different matter.

Swing weight does go down if you do not make adjustments, I also tipped my driver so adjusted swing weight easily with tip weight. if you was to butt cut only then its easy to add lead powder and cork the shaft.

Yep 44" for me in past 2yrs and not lost any distance but gained more control. Why would you want a driver over 45" anyway......... Oh yeah marketing?

you'll be off scratch very soon

Mine was bought at 45.5" and cut down to 44".

It made quite a difference in swingweight, made it feel far too light. I've since swapped the standard grip for a lightweight one and although I don't think it's back where it was designed to be, it's close enough that I don't notice it.
