So I have a custom fitting today ready to make an order for my Christmas present from the Mrs. I currently split between 3 clubs the new TM speedblades, New Mizunos EZ series, and Ping G25, any one have any experience of these? Worth looking at. I know what I want to come out on top, but to be honest I am more than happy to go with whatever is best for my swing and game.

Second question, what is the difference between a normal custom fit service, and what the Mizuno DNA service does? Is it worth having both done, are is the DNA specific to choosing mizuno clubs?

First thing. Take your current 6 iron with you, so you can compare the numbers of your current an prospective clubs.

A good fitting will have an good selection of heads and shafts, with good quality balls and, ideally, and outdoor range with a Trackman/flightscope facility.

Mizuno Swing DNA is, in a nut shell, the finger print of your swing, but is by no means, the be-all and end-all of fitting. It's a guide to how you swing a club based around certain peramiters. These paramiters are:

Headspeed
Tempo
Toe down
Kick angle
Release factor


Here's a break down of the above (Stolen from aother site :D)

Head Speed - rather obvious, maximum head speed value during the swing.

Tempo - This measured what kind of transition you have on a scale of 1 to 9 (one being the smoothest and nine being the quickest). Think of Ernie Els' swing vs. Nick Price. No number is better than the other, just personal tempo.

Toe Down - As it sounds, this is how much the shaft bends down towards the ground during the swing (again, on a one to nine scale). This won't have a big effect on lie angle, but possibly a slight one. This is why we recommend one you find the proper shaft, that you use the lie fit club to take a lie angle measurement WITH THAT SHAFT.

Kick Angle - The amount the shaft bends forward (towards the target). This helps us to determine the proper bending profile of the shaft for you. For example, if you need something with a stiffer mid section, etc.

Release Factor - When in the swing the shaft itself actually released the head. For a couple of extreme examples, think of Sergio Garcia and David Toms. Sergio releases VERY late, and thus needs a firmer tipped shaft. Toms releases earlier, and so he can use a softer tip to deliver more power to the ball. 1= Late release (Lots of Lag) 9= Early release (Not much lag)

After 3 swings the swing DNA will analyse the information and recommend 3 shafts.

I had one done in my fitting and got numbers of:

71-4-1-2-1

Did I go with the shaft the DNA suggested, nope :mad:

I got better figures using a heavier R300 shaft in launch, dispersion, spin and distance.

enjoy, should be fun, i would also suggest trying about rocketbladez if speedbladz wins as for a lot less £££'s you get a similar club.

Thanks for the information! Your fitting looks great! Whats the reason that you got fitted for irons and wedges are P, A, S wedges in irons sets not the greatest, or is to with getting the correct bounce? Is it worth me looking into this?

The set I had only ran 3-PW.

While I was there I thought "Why not" and opt'd for a wedge fitting and got the lofts sorted to give an exceptable distance gapping.

Hit some wedges and speak to the fitter. They'll be able to judge you best based on how you hit the ball and the divots you leave :thup:
 
I tried the Ez forged the other week when I was trying out new irons, they are a good club, they feel nice, I just couldn't get away with the dark finish on them.

The Mizuno DNA fitting is a good bit of kit, it helps narrow down some of the shaft choices. My numbers were 84-7-7-8-8 I'm pretty aggressive in the downswing and through the ball so it recommend me shafts with a stiffer tip, which made a big difference.

Try get on Trackman or something similar with the 3 shafts the DNA fitting suggests and see what numbers they give back.

I had it Bradley Hall Golf Club where I play my golf. Done with the Head Pro who was fantastic not only talked me through my numbers, but explained the physics behind what shaft flexs do, how grip thickness can change my shot shape. Right through to at the end giving me a few pointers on my swing!

We narrowed my shaft choice down to 4 3 from mizuno DNA fitting and one from Ping with a g25 head, the G25 threw the ball way too high for me, and my explained that this due the weighting being at the bottom of the club meaning the COG lower making it easier to get airbourne.

I ended up choosing JPXEZs the cast head version (at 24 handicap I don't think I need the feel of forged clubs, nor the expense, and I couldn't tell them apart any way. The best shaft for me turneed out to the. KBS Stiff can't remember the weight but it was one of the heavier choices. Found I need 1/2" longer shafts and 3* upright lie.

it really was an opening experience. Can't wait to take delivery!
 
Glad to hear it went well. I wasn't fussed on those EZ irons when I first saw them on a screen. They are mighty fine in real life though!

So if you purchase the clubs you don't pay for the fitting too? I always wondered about custom fittings, if (like myself) a reasonably high handicapper (20 ish) wanted to get some clubs custom fitted, then went for lessons and their swing completely changed etc would this not deem the custom fitting redundant ( Sorry if that's a stupid question :fore:)
