Hi All

I am looking at getting custom fitted for either JPX800 or HD irons and i don't know where the best place to go is. I live in Witham Essex which has a American Golf in Freeport, Braintree and I work in Brentwood which has a Nevada Bobs in the high street.

Just wondering if either of these would be good to go to or if there was a better place i could go.

Not sure if anyone would be able to help me but any ideas would be great.

Its a different class of fitting at Burhill to your American Golf etc, they have trackman for a start & very knowledgeable staff, also have a good range to warm up on. It was a good experience & you get a pack with your requirements to shop around with. We still have ours as my daughter was not happy when the trackman knocked up just a graphite shaft for her & she point blank refuses to use graphite. Two words of warning make sure you go toilet at the hotel beforehand as it a long walk back as there is no toilet around the fitting area & don't trust your sat nav, mine took me along a side road & ended up taking me through the middle of the course on the cart paths, lucky the course was quiet.

Sorry i ment the difference between a National and Regional Mizuno fitting centre. Its just there is a Regional fitting centre in Ipswich with is about half the distance to the National one.

Bump to an old thread!

Live in a similar sort of area and was also wondering about this, looking on the mizuno website it shows there is a local mizuno fitting centre in Braintree. Is this at American golf in Freeport or is it at the braintree golf club? There is an American golf at lexden wood which is nearer home but after hearing some stories i'm tempted to avoid them. Any help would be appreciated.

Like you I live in the Witham area and I originally booked for the National Fitting Centre, a friend advised me to try Sarah at Branford so I did. "She knows her onions" is an understatement- she is brilliant; yes the range leaves something to be desired but Sarah makes up for it. Using both the Mizuno Technology and her Senior PGA experience, she sorted me out with a set of custom JPX 800 Pro's.

They are fantastic, the only problem I have is I got them at the end of the year and since then the weather has been terrible.Roll on decent conditions to really get used to the clubs- they are certainly longer and I'm much straighter with them, but only time and Spring will tell.

But save yourself an hour plus journey try Branford - all this sounds like an advert but she and the clubs have re-enthused my game:D

Didn't realise there were so many local guys here. Which clubs are you all members with?

MattCarter, I see you're a member at Forresters. Myself and Swanny32 on here are both from Forresters. Do you play the Sunday comps at all?

I'm reluctant to go to AG in both Freeport and Lexden Wood although the LW one is a million times better than the freeport one. Where else can someone go in Essex to get fitted and get good honest advice with a large selection of sticks? Sarah is a good shout but she only seems to have a limited selection of clubs.

Another good place to go is Rayleigh Driving Range, known online as www.discountgolfstore.co.uk they also have a store in Brentwood I think. I see the Mizuno fitters on tour are at this range in May. Might be worth checking out.

My experience of AG in Braintree has been quite good with a fair few of my clubs coming from there, although never properly custom fitted, so maybe steer clear if you are after a full custom fitting.

When I bought my G10's a couple years ago I was looking at getting something brand new and not once did they recommend me getting custom fitted, he pulled out the pre owned G10's, told me to have a whack knowing I would like them more than what I was trying at the time and then walked me to the till. I'm also led to believe that their projector monitoring system is tweaked to give an extra 15 yards and make you appear straighter than you actually are. It told me I hit a 7 iron 165 yards which is complete rubbish.

Fair enough, I didn't know any of that. As I said I have never been custom fitted, only told by a PGA pro in an AG what he recommends for shaft stiffness.

If I was to get a proper custom fitting done it wouldn't be in an AG. Unless I won a GM comp obviously as they are properly custom fitted then, although no hope of that as there are none in Essex!!

Having now had two lessons with Sarah I would definitely entrust any future Mizuno club fitting purchases in her capable hands. Mike you're right "knows her onions" is a hell of an understatement! Swanny have you decided what you want yet? If you are looking at teh top end of your bag Aztecs swears by the JPX range
