Does anyone have an opinion or experience of getting fairway woods and utilities custom fit?

I have had my Mizuno MX200's custom fit and they are perfect to hit (although I have no idea of how I would hit a non fitted iron of the same type - academic point really).

My local golf shop is having a bit of a sale of some Mizzy woods and I am wondering if I should be following the same line as the irons. My current Callaway 3/5 wood and Ping G10 18 degree hybrid are fine to hit in terms of direction and distance, so I am wondering if it is worth the effort for what may be a small, if beneficial return?

All comments and opinions welcome.

Hi,
I don't think the fairwoods have moved on as quickly as irons and utilities u see a lot of the pros using 5 woods that they had from years ago if you are happy with the shaft of your woods i wouldn't change them also i think the muzino utilites are not as good as the ping and none are as good as taylormade

If you hit your fairways good there not much point changing unless you fancy a change.

I found it hard to find a fairway which is good into the wind i always had it balloning so custom fit helped me alot

I had my utility c/f'ed at titleist at the same time as my irons. Can't say it has made much of a difference, but maybe it has, who knows. The only thing was my irons were plus 1/2", so if my hybrid wasn't, it would be short.

I had my 3 wood custom fit. And I ended up with a shaft that behaves exactly the same as my driver which was also custom fit. Coincidence??? No chance!

Because my Irons also have the same shaft beahviours too. I have learnt that my swing requires me to use a light shft with a low kick/soft tip.

I bought a Ben Ross V5 trimass with the aldila NVS shaft which again is a soft tip. It wasn't custom fit I got it for £29 from online golf. Every shot I have taken with it on the course, I block right and it doesnt feel right, why? Because it is 10 grams heavier than my driver shaft so the swing weight isn't the same and it throws my timing out.

If you get on with the clubs you have then I wouldnt change. If you fancy a change and are going to do so regardless then you may aswell get fit because it costs no extra and atleast you will have the setup you know suits you. I am now happy with every club in my bag except the Ben Ross. And the reason for that is, its the only one that hasn't been C/F. No biggy though it only cost buttons!

I will never spend serious money on a club again unless it is fitted. Its like buying shoes with out trying them on!

I guess in terms of uniformity of shaft behaviour then it would make sense to get them custom fitted but I don't really see much value in it. I know a number of top pros have old favourites (e.g. callaway steelhead + etc) as their 3 and 5 wood of choice and so if it ain't broken why fix it.

My suggestion would be to get the pro to tape it up and let you hit some balls (or use a demo model) and see how you feel. If you like the way you hit them then I'd probably suggest getting them if you have your heart set on some new sticks.
