Custom fit driver????

In a word, yes. The importance of having the right shaft flex, kickpoint, loft, launch conditions etc all apply to the driver, and any discrepancies are likely to be even more pronounced with it.

I saw that post. When I had my irons custom fitted I was really impressed. I have never had a good relationship with my R9 driver and I thought Custom Fit sould be the solution????

I have to say that once I get a modicum of consistency I would deffo consider it.

Not sure on the costs involved but at least you will know rather than playing the next however many rounds struggling or not reaching your potential

Of course, it could be your swing that stops you getting on with the R9. Just a thought. :)

But if you know that you have the club and shaft optimised through CF, at least then you'll know it's your swing and not the club....

If you've got the money for a CF driver, certainly worth doing. If on a budget, I'd suggest the money would be better spent on lessons to provide you with a swing to make the most of the equipment you've already got. You may be having lessons any way, of course.

EDIT: In fact, I'd say get the lessons first. If your technique evolves, the chances are your swing speed could change, rendering your shafts too flexible. That's what's happened to me, even after 20 years playing the game.

Probably worth a look if you have the time, budget and a swing that is fairly consistant off the tee. At the other end of the scale I was thinking about a putter fitting (perhaps Cally at Chessington) as it is the club I use the most and wondered if it would be a bigger benefit

Got to agree with Monty on the lessons before custom fit here. If you get custom fitted for your current swing then have lessons you are changing what you have been fitted for. I found this out after a course of lessons . Used to hit the standard Reg Flex R9 Supertri on a nice trajectory - had a course of lessons through the winter and my swing changed but the effect was more pronounced on my driver than anything else. The standard shaft (Fujikura Motore 65) promoted a high launch after lessons it was way too high. Had the cash so got a 910 custom fitted by the pro who gave me lessons & I must have tried every standard option available before settling on the Kai'li. Gained about 20 yards and hit it straighter - what more can you ask for. Please don't get custom fitted until you have a reasonably consistent swing.

I went for a custom fit for a driver to Mizuno, local pro, TM and AG, TM tried to push the R11 on me, Mizuno said wait till next years woods, AG didnt say much at all and the local pro said the stats showed my own driver was right for me and wont sell me anything that wasnt MUCH better.

in all honesty my driving is the strongest part of my game. Consistantly i hit a 260+ drive (generally where i want it to go). I am loosing alot of distance due to the height and spin I am getting on the ball. yesterday I tried the r11 with a 60g S shaft and I was hitting the ball atleast 20 to 30 yards longer then my current driver. The pro recommended the R11 set up from the data he had from my custom fit for the irons but did say he would go in more detail when I am ready to for a new driver.

so at LEAST a 280/290 yard drive everytime if you get the R11............whats holding you back?

I have just spent £500 on the jpx 800 pro. The r11 is best part of £300. When HID finds out (god willing she does not) it will be a interesting fight lol. The other reason I am not committing to the r11 is the reviews of the. titleist Driver which I have not tried yet.

I found custom fitting of my driver much more useful than custom fitting for my irons. During my Ping driver fitting, I could see the results of hitting different shaft and head combinations immediately. The changes weren't so evident in my Mizuno iron fitting session and relied more on the figures given out by the trackman than what my eyes were telling me at Ping.
I hate hitting off of mats. That's maybe why my iron fitting was not as successful as I thought it would be. Because I was hitting the driver off of a tee (albeit off of a mat again) the strike I was putting on the ball was much more "natural" and the different results from each club were easier to gauge.
A mis-hit iron shot iron shot off a mat looked crap no matter which iron I was hitting.
Hope that makes sense?????
