custom fit clubs?

ok as i have been out the game for nearly 4 yrs now and back then custom fitting was just taking off as i got a set custom fitted about 8 yrs ago now.

Right i was still a teenager then etc and things have changed blah blah blah

My question is am about to get a brand new set of irons and wedges but do i just buy a standard set or get them custom fitted?

Reason am asking is am not wanting to start playing again with my old custom fitted set i want to start everything fresh but i havent touched a club in so long so will take a wee while to get my swing back etc

1) go get a standard set?
2) use my old set for a while then get new set custom fitted?
3) get custom fitted straight away

any advice would be good m8

i remember my last set were 1/4 inch longer / 2 degree more upright and thicker grips

Fairmorn, go with whatever you're happy with. You're potentially a low handicaper so you know what's best for you surely.

Yes BUT i think am going to try my old set for a few rounds and see how i get on and go from there. Just really need to get back into hitting a ball again

Don't listen to anyone who says custom fitting is no good. They are Luddites who still think the earth is flat!!!

Without any doubt whatsoever, Fairmon, take option 2 for some time while getting back into the game.

Check out previous postings on this subject (just do a search on custom fit) and you will be overwhelmed with the disparate views. At least a 100 postings including this subject in the last month alone.

If you are not of average height and build then I think you should be custom fitted, especially if you are paying a Kings randsom for them.

Use your old set until you get a decent repeatable swing and then consider custom fitting.

yes. If you are buying new clubs you should get custom fit for free(just go to someone with the launch monitors ect).

Some on here are for it in a big way some against it in a big as they say it does nothing for you unless you are a pro there fore a wast of money.

As you are buying new it wont cost money depending on where you go and i can't remember anyone who has said it is detrimental to your game.

So if you get it for nowt and at the worst it is not detrimental to your game then its a no brainer for me, get it done.

I think you would be sensible to try the old clubs first, get back into the game and then decide what you would like to do.

You never know you might remember you love the old clubs and save yourself a small fortune.

As you can see already, this is always a hot topic on the forum. There have been literally dozens of posts, all of which have ended up in a rammy. Opinion is split and always will be.

It'd be easier to devote some time to sorting out the Palestinian problem. That's usually what I do when I see a post on this topic.

I was offered a set of Big Bertha (2004), irons 3-SW, little used, today for £270....the pro said he'd get the other pro to fit me for length/lie and then throw in any adjustments.

Tempted......but are they a tad too "improvement" for me?

Well done fellow forumers for not reigniting the fuse on this topic.

I'm in the custom fitted camp but I guess its up to you. I'd suggest at least starting out with your current set and see how the game progresses and make a decision from there.

I'd also bear in mind that the season has yet to start properly and most of the big boys in the marketplace have yet to fully unveil their new ranges yet. it may pay to wait a couple of months first.

Of course you could always read the reviews on the excellent link on the main website (plug plug) or in the magazine each month.

I can recommend getting custom fitted.
But like the rest i dont want to get involved in another heated one about this topic.

As the lads have said the new season is round the corner and it may pay to look at some of the newer offerings about to be released and also there should be some good deals going round on some of last seasons clubs.

I wouldn't go for the BBs, as they are too game improving, and I think you will be put off by the looks.

I have looked at the BB irons, the 2006 ones are not to bad but the 2008 are real ugly. I am in a dilema with either buying G5s or X20s, I just dont know which to get.
