Starts tomorrow though you'd never know by the lack of coverage. Can't believe Sky has a paltry 30 minutes of highlights scheduled each day

I do have a particular interest this year as Meghan MacLaren from my new club is playing - lots of supporters from Wellingborough making the trip. It just seems such a shame that there is so little interest and without better coverage that won't change anytime soon.

I'll be honest and say that I just had to google what the Curtis cup is.....

Does the Walker Cup get better coverage? Genuine question and I don't know the answer. (I had to do the same as adam6177)

Apart from diehards does the viewing public want to watch amateur golfers? Not really. I think Sky giving 30 minutes is pretty good.

When we had it in 2012 there was a highlights package, not sure if it was on sky or not. only limited funds and set up for it no different from the Mens Amateur championship, so not like its discriminated against

It is bad..
I'm sure the Walker Cup got a reasonable amount of coverage so to limit the Curtis to 30 minutes of highlights is poor.
Another example of how ratings is King and Ladies golf simply doesn't bring them in.
It's almost Catch 22....they won't show it if the ratings rent there but if they don't show it nobody will watch it anyway....
Golf on TV shouldn't start and end with Day, Spieth and Rory....

Yes the walker cup does get better coverage, was on for two full afternoons last year on BBC. I think it has change to Sky now, so I would have thought they might do more with it.

It is a shame that the ladies game does not get the same coverage but clearly even some golf funs do not know what it is then the generally public are not going to be interested. I know 2 of the 16 players by name, couldn't tell you much about their games though. Its a catch 22 really, a lot of people are not going to be interested without knowing who the players are but without the coverage you are going to struggle to get to know them.

Having said that you would have thought if sky is going to the trouble of having highlights, then they would go for a bit longer, a couple hours a night say to try grow the game.

Kind of what I was thinking. At this time of year there is surely room in their scheduling for a long highlights show.

Yeah you would have thought so, also just checked to see when the highlights are being shown, the 30 slot is when the host broadcaster for the PGA tour switches each night so they are just filling the gap. You have to wonder if that gap wasn't there would they even bother. There's plenty other space on the schedule even if it is shown the day after, who really wants to watch the highlights of the 2000 Players championship?

there may well be space in the schedule, i expect the truth is that the demand just isnt there (except for us golf addicts and those who know one of the players involved), cant see selling advert space being too easy or profitable. Expect we should be glad we get any highlights at all really (albeit id love to see a lot more of it)

But is the demand not there because it is never shown?

Just the afternoons Amanda. Started at like 1/2 through to the final play each day.

You're right and it was on BBC.

I do think it's the kind of golf competition which generally might have more interest than a strokeplay tournament so just seems an opportunity missed. Mind you I don't see mention of it on the main GM site since the article when the USA announced their team in Feb and GB&I have been announced since then.

chicken and egg? expect even if shown the demand is relatively limited

Yeah it certainly is a chicken and egg situation. To my knowledge women's golf has never really been shown, only been watching golf since 2010. Is it a case that it has been shown more previously but never had the numbers so they dropped it? Or is it that they have never shown much because they think people wouldn't watch? All it takes is showing it for a few weeks/months and if people see it on more then there is a chance they will watch more regularly.

Yeah I think the matchplay format would be better for gaining more interest in the women's game. Likely to see a bit more character and personality out of the competitors compared to stroke play. At least we are getting the women's major on TV this week, hope to catch some of that.

A great result GB & I 11.5 - USA 8.5although you'd never know from the majority of golf media. No mention of the Curtis Cup at all in GM's tweets or Latest News on the website that I've seen yet they're doing a comp with FJ " as part of our bigger focus on the ladies game"
