Joined a new club and have now played 3 rounds and had 3 absolute shockers albeit in hideous conditions. Gross 99,95 and 96 which off a 13 handicap is a bag of the proverbial. What's worse is that i seem to have gone back to beginner golf. Topping it , 3 off of the tees ,lost balls and I even had an air shot !!!!!!

I love the club though and have played with 3 different groups of lads all of whom couldn't be more welcoming as have the pros. I have no regrets but am really hoping to find some kind of game soon.

Anyone else had any similar experiences ??

...and after 3 more rounds like this you then start the betting!

I know your type

Yup, still in that rut 18 months in! yet to even hit buffer at my own course! play away and can bang anywhere from 32 to 38 points! weird!

I know where you are coming from as I have been there myself but as Viruocity has said try and relax. You quite clearly have the ability playing off 12.

as I slight example went for a fitting/try out with some new drivers on Sunday My swing and strike was shocking. That bad the fitter said my attack angle was like I was using a 7 iron :(

This was all due to me being tense and nervous. Went for one of those free lessons (at the golf show) to see what was wrong and after 2 swings was back to normal again :)

You need to game some Nike covert 2's

I wouldnt worry too much about it at this stage mate. New courses bring new challenges and new management strategies that have to be learned. Couple that with playing with new people it's natural for a bit of anxiety to creep in even if you don't feel it, all normal.
Conditions added to that certainly won't help, so as Virtuocity said above, relax and let yourself ease into the new club, course and company. See what its like in better conditions before getting concerned that something is wrong.
When I joined Muckhart years back, I was shooting high 80's/Low 90's whereas I was always low/mid 80's at my old club, but then I knew the course and to some extent how to manage it.

Give it time, it will come together.

Cheers guys for the comments, i am relaxed in the fact that i totally know that i've made the right decision in joining my new club there's no stress there but there may be a point in relaxing a bit more in new company and not trying too hard to justify my playing handicap and just "letting go". Let's see what this weekend brings !!!

Fear of trying to set a good impression! The old mind can play funny old tricks.

chill out, relax and just go out to enjoy the company. The golf will come along....

5 months in at Blackmoor and only now starting to feel vaguely comfortable.

There is a bit of wanting to play well that makes you put pressure on yourself and a bit of learning to play different shots. For me the biggest difference has been around the greens. At RAGC, the greens and surrounds are generally fairly flat but with many raised ones and plenty of slopes at Blackmoor it requires different types of chip shot which at first I didn't think I would ever get to grips with.

It takes time to learn a new course, you'll get there so just enjoy yourself and it will come.

Probably trying too hard in front of strangers. Simple as that. Once you've been there a while and you know a few people to play with regularly you'll naturally relax and scores will improve. Of course, learning the greens and course management may take a tad longer!
