Hi all

Me and a couple of mates are looking at a 1 night 2 rounds deal on 1st October. We initially looked at the Belfry but think £280 pp is a bit toppy, so am looking elsewhere.

The Crowne Plaza Colchester is doing 2 rounds (lakes course and links course), 1 night, dinner and breakfast for £139......seems like an absolute steal. Any thoughts?

We're based in Chingford, Bromley and Tonbridge so am open to suggestions of other "local" courses.

Is that 5 lakes? pretty sure it is.

I would strongly suggest elsewhere.

Played early this year courses were a mess and pretty poor layouts also it was constantly windy

I agree if it is 5 lakes then I would avoid as the course isn't fantastic. If you were more flexible and sign up to the belfry newsletter you should be able to do it for cheaper than that stated

Adam ,i had an email from the Belfry a couple of days ago ,
one night two rounds full english brekky £99 pp

just checked the email
midweek only and not the Brabazon course
if you want the Brab then its just under 170 pp

Unfortunately for the date we want its £279 pp to do the Brabazon and Derby, which to be honest I don't think is good value.

Yes its the 5 lakes place......thanks for the heads up all. I'll look elsewhere.

Go for Stoke By Nayland (www.stokebynayland.com) not a million miles away and they'll look after you. Beer's pretty good too :)

Yeah definitely look at SBYN, a couple of cracking courses, loved them both, some walking between holes if you are not in buggies. That said IIRC I think some changes have been made to the courses since I last played there I was told.

5 Lakes, last played probably 15 years ago, and the two courses were okay but, pretty much flat, easy walking and windy normally. Wonder if the golf lodges along one of the fairways have now been finished and are being used ?

quite randomly, seems we're going to Celtic Manor now....

Much better choice. I prefer the monty over the 2010 but both are excellent. Only downside is the cost of food and beer.

I live local to 5 lakes and I have the same opinion as everyone else about it. Stoke has two better courses but again still not that special.
