Anyone played there before? Got a charity golf day on Thursday. Looking forward to it.

Seems like a bit of an "old skool" club, ties and jackets in the club house.

If you are having a sit down meal after the game then jacket and tie is required as at most members's clubs I play. It's not an issue. Just accept and enjoy.

Nice course, usually in A1 condition. 2 tough opening par 4's and you will be doing well to play those in under 10 shots. Then there is a short loop of 3 holes the other side of the bridle path but don't be fooled, position is paramount. The rest of the course is an excellent test of golf. My favourite on the back 9 is the par 3 16th (but I'm not going to club you as it would be a bit unfair to the rest of your society).

Thanks for the reply.

There is a sit down meal, but the dress code sent with the charity confirmation said:

* Croham Hurst Golf Club would be delighted if members and guests attired in jacket, collar & tie however smart casual wear is acceptable. Denim, in any form, shell suits, sleeveless or collarless shirts and trainers are not acceptable.

And your point is ???????? :mmm::rolleyes:

My "point" as you put it, was in response to your comment of:

And I was pointing out that a jacket and tie wasn't "required".

I appreciated your first reply, but not sure the 2nd was quite as friendly or useful.

played here several times and its always in great condition. its has some top holes but beware of the greens - they're fast with very subtle breaks so make sure you use the practice green first!

Really nice course. Our club has a reciprocal with them so played it a few times. The short loop is a bit plain, but the rest of the course is very good, with some really interesting holes.

The greens have always been superb when I've played it, and are pretty quick.

The putting green is great fun. It's massive, quick, and has some insane breaks on it. The second time we played there we got there an hour early just to mess around with impossible putts on the practice green.

Woody.

In your OP, you asked for feedback about the club and then followed up with an opinion "Seems like a bit of an "old skool" club, ties and jackets in the club house." As I said, their normal preferred dress code, as you can see from the addendum you later posted, is jacket and tie but, unusually, it seems that for this charity event they are OK about guests in smart casual.

Surely this is a positive move away from, as you put it, "old school".

Anyway, hope you have a good round tomorrow and enjoy the course (and meal )

So, Woody.

Come on. Feedback please.:)

Was Croham Hurst to your liking?

It was decidedly average. Greens were in good condition and true, but very slow. Grass seemed quite long and the heavy rain in the morning probably slowed them up. A lot of nothing holes and even after only a week I'd struggle to remember many of them. Felt like a lot of holes had just been squeezed in. Fairways seemed a little dug up in places, but the tees were in mostly good condition.

Changing rooms / showers were nice and the food served at the dinner was nice considering it was a mass produced service for nearly 100 or so people.

Pro shop was small and felt chaotic with stock randomly placed everywhere with no rhyme or reason as to why.

Wouldn't rush to go back if I'm honest. Might have been a little unfair as the charity do is usually held at Burhill, so perhaps I was comparing it to that and felt a little short changed.

More than a little unfair I'd say. Not much to choose between Burhill Old and Croham Hurst as courses, Burhill New doesn't even get close to being a comparison. The clubhouse at Burhill is a lot better than many, but I spend 5 minutes changing my shoes and 4 hours playing golf so I'm not sure it's that important. Either you've been spoiled rotten in your previous choice of courses or you've been somewhat harsh to Croham Hurst.

Or I have a different opinion to you and don't rate Croham as more than an average course. Don't worry, children weren't harmed in the forming of this opinion.
