I went over on my ankle very badly at the course this afternoon, its still very painful, although not too swollen, hoping a good night's sleep sorts it out as I have a very busty august, starting with a Mixed invitation at Fairhaven on Sunday (thanks Chellie's hubby) and finishing with Lady Captain's day at the end of the month, with lots in between.

Have you put ice on to reduce the swelling? Hope it improves soon

Hope your busty August goes well :o
Hopefully it's just a twist/strain. Torn Ligaments can take a long time to heal. Did it swell up?

Er yes I did. Torn ligament. Got it checked out several weeks later.

couldnt have been anything more than am minor tear if that. last time I tore ankle ligaments i was on crutches for nearly 3 weeks before i could even put any weight through it and best part of 3 months before hitting golf balls and know people have had to rehab far far longer than that

Is it your left or right ankle? If its your left (assuming your a right handed golfer) then go very careful you put a huge twisting strain on the ankle as you finish your swing. is there any bruising around your foot? Bruising down the side of the foot is quite common with a rolling injury, if you have any bruising/pain across the top of the foot/ankle joint then get it looked at asap

Was told by a fairly scary nurse that I should never have walked on it. Having done serious knee ligaments in the past I knew something was wrong the sound was unmistakabkle.
How people react to injury is a bit odd though... some react differently to others and not everyone is the same.

Bit like golf and swings.

Its my right so not as big a problem as the left, its now swelling quit a bit on the outside of the foot, no bruising as I can see and I can put weight on it.

Going to keep it elevated and iced overnight and then decide what to do in the morning.

I tore an ankle ligament playing football some years ago. Pain was incredible. Couldn't put any weight on it and just hanging it in the air hurt like hell. I got my football boot off and couldn't get a trainer on for days the swelling was so bad. I didn't play again for eight months.

I did the same coming out the toilets at whitby golf club, totally my own fault.

Anti inflams and bought a sock support to help it out. The one time i forgot to wear it I re-sprained (easy to do if you dont support it).

About 5-6 weeks later its fully healed. I still wear a sock support just in case. I also stopped playing badminton and football after work for a couple of months, just walking and golf.

It will heal and it will get back to full strength, a good exercise I learnt was to try and draw the alphabet a letter at a time with your ankle once a night for 2 weeks. It takes 5 mins but stretches every part out nicely.

did this too.
went over mine last winter walking off a green and stood on the edge of a newly turfed bunker. agony for a couple of minutes before the adrenaline kicked in. happened on the 2nd and after a few minutes i was back on my feet and cautiously completed the round...idiot... ankle swole up like a melon overnight and ended up in out of hours the next morning. i was back golfing within a fortnight, but went over it again 3-4 weeks later tripping over one of those handly placed junior tee markers randomly dumped at the start of a fairway.
actually been over my ankle quite a few times in my DNA shoes - waterproofing went on them and exchanged for FJ dryjoy spikeless pair - much better support.

Ive done mine quite a few times Louise mainly paying football. After the initial overnight agony they've healed pretty sharpish and I've been walking about within a week or so.
However the last time I did it jumping of a mobile scissor lift I really smashed it up, it kept me off the course for a month.

If you've just gone over on it and strained it I think you'll be surprised how quickly it heals despite the initial pain.

Its still swollen and sore this morning so I have pulled out of Fairhaven tomorrow and Lancaster on Tuesday looks in doubt. Hope I can make our medal on Thursday

Its happened just when I am playing the best I have done all season.
