A good friend of mine, a long term golfer, off 16 (he has been lower), with multiple replacement parts, aged 70, shot a silly score today.

A one over par 73.

51 points in the Friday swindle.

Ok, it's off yellows, but flipping heck, wow!

His playing partner, off 5, shot 2 over for 39, and got gubbed. Would have lost 2 and 1 off scratch!

that is fantastic :) I love stuff like this

Not to Hijack the thread and turn it into another mass debate but it sounds like he experienced flow and got into the 'zone' should give hope to us all.

What did he say about the round and how he played after?

Thanks for that. Gives me hope!!

We had a 9 hole captains drive in comp today and I had a crazy scoring day for all the wrong reasons. Started well with a birdie putt from just off the green that just shaved the hole but it then turned into a bogey. OOB on the next tee, quickly followed by two more and various chunks and shanks led to a miserable 7 points. Worst score I can remember on the eve of our first comp back off the whites. Doesn't do a lot for the confidence but hopefully this was a one off.

Stupid isn't it. One of our seniors off of 12 shot level par 70 a couple of years ago at the age of 69. He started with a hole in one on the 229yd par 3 1st. He was gutted he didn't shoot his age.

One of our Seniors was playing in a yellowball team of 4 the other week, where the player using the yellow ball on a particular hole gets double Stableford points. At our Par 3 6th hole, he got a hole-in-one for 10 points !! :o

There is no such thing as general play anymore, he would have to have signed up for a supplementary before hand.

He didn't. Why would he?

We have a 73 year old who shot 72 some months back.
He's off 5.
I'm off 28 and I've partnered him in a comp.
He's a great chap to play with but... I quickly learned that when he approached and addressed his ball his concentration level and focus was incredibly high.
No idle chatter from me!
A valuable experience at the time.

Not true.

Clause 23 does allow for General Play adjustments. However, as I posted on another thread, any GP adjustments unconnected to the Annual Review should be very rare indeed.

OK - so how does C23 anual review work, discussion / opinion or simple application of a formula?

For the Annual Review, assuming that the club has CONGU licensed handicapping software, the handicap committee will have available to them a computer-generated report which will identify players who should be considered for adjustment – either up or down – based on the year’s playing record. Players will be identified in the report if their overall performance in qualifiers falls outside the expected performance level – that level varies according to handicap. Each player so identified will be discussed and opinions given by committee members having looked at additional evidence such as performance in non-qualifiers (pairs etc.) and knockouts. Having looked in depth at all aspects of the player’s playing year, they can either accept the adjustment recommendation in the report, change it or ignore it. The committee does not have to limit their discussions to players listed in the report if they feel that any player not listed should be discussed.
