This morning I played 9 holes on the local course, started off very well (1 over after 3, 28ish hc) then 1 bad tee started the ball rolling to what was to be the worst rubbish ever witnessed on a golf course. This is the first time I've never wanted to complete a round. If it wasn't a duff it was a high slice, really caught me out as I havnt been playing to badly lately. To compound the misery I was booked in at 5 for a lesson (v.nearly cancelled) and guess what, after a few minor tweaks he had me hitting it as good as I've ever done!

HOW CAN THIS BE?

Rant over

thanks for listening, and breathe.....

Last summer I was in great form, went into a local junior tournament. One of the bigger days in our calendar feeling quite confident of getting a prize. 1st 3 holes went ok, threw my back out hitting the tee shot on the 4 and couldn't swing.

After that, for the rest of the summer I played like crap.

Played Frodsham on New years day.

Very grey and dull so I pulled this yellow Srixon out of the bag.

Played the worst nine holes in months with it.

Swopped it on the 10th and despite it now lashing down to go with the hoolie it had been blowing since we'd tee'd off immeadiately started playing miles better.

Srixon is now in the practice balls bag.

In the last two rounds I've played I've been 12 and 14 over respectively on the front nine and come in 4 over and 6 over on the back nine.
Nine hole course with 18 tees but it's not the putting that changed my fortunes it was my aproach shots both times and I'm not good enough to have the same drive to help with club selection.
It's a frustrating game that gets under your skin but it's great fun.

Had a few rounds in 2013 that I didn't want to finish but ground it out. I wouldn't worry too much and enjoy winter golf as an excuse to get out and play. Forget the scores. I'd personally take the tweaks from the lesson and hit the range and work on them for a few weeks but that's just me.

I had a range session that wasn't great as we only had nine holes open and I didn't fancy it. A few good things but I can't hit a driver. Sliceville so got a lesson booked

You're a 28ish h'capper playing the most frustrating game in the world, it happens so I'd just get used to it. A few years ago I remember playing 4 times in a week, I shot 74, 75, 75 and 96

A few seasons ago, went on the range to hit some balls just prior to a round at Hawkstone Park. I couldn't hit the ball. No matter what I tried. I was in a real panic. Had to wait on the first tee for 20 minutes or so and I convinced myself I was about to endure one of my worst ever rounds. Stood on the tee, stroked a nice drive right down the middle and enjoyed a brilliant round.
Thats golf. Form comes and goes. It seems to me, the better you get the more consistent you become.
