Okay, okay okay, I got well and truly gubbed by John Findlay on his home turf Cragielaw today. Good test of golf is Craigielaw and if you’re on for the GM forum meet coming soon then you better get some chip and run practice, chip low from tight lie practice, downhill putting practice, uphill putting practice, big swing putting practice, long bunker practice, deep bunker practice, tight lie lob practice, drive accurately, lay up or die practice, don’t aim for the pin practice. You could forget all that and bring a bible….I will.

The course is fairly new, eight years or so, but you wouldn’t know it really and it’s well laid out with a common theme on all the greens……..frigging hard to hit. Besides the bunkers the roughs not too bad and there is a few out of bounds, boundary walls and the odd water hazard to look out for.

Oh, I got the cigars out on the 7th. Greenside with my second shot. I’m only 40 or so feet from the flag and I chip up the hill, over the green aaaaaaannnnnnddddddd into the bunker, out the bunker, run over the green to the place where I was before, bump and run……..no no no no no YES and into the funking bunker again, two shots later and I’m back over the other side again…….are you counting guys……..up onto the green, it was dark by this time and the coastguard was out looking for us. I sink a 20 footer for a 9 and John said that was a good 9. It was and I gave John the hole.

By the end of the round I was giving John 20 footers because he was sinking them all day anyway.

Nice clubhouse to boot.

Cheers Tomo21, really fills us with confidence if you've had a day like that. As for J_F, was he still off 9 ?

Ach...damn guys. The secret's out. TOMO has been getting some secret wind practice around "the Law". Not that he needs it.....senior champ that he is (birth certificate still in question!)

We had a good day. Not only is this the man who was born in the same hospital as me and lived in the same area of Glasgow as me as a youngster but he gives me free short game lessons! Thank God. Someone who knows what he's talking about. I will be practicing his tips.

Great banter. Gentleman and a sholar. Good day out and a grand game.

Felt a bit embarrassed about holing those 5 twenty footers to have TOMO holding his head in his hands at the end.....but I'd still swap short games in the blink of an eye. Did remember to putt like a kid today and it worked. Think we'll have a good day on the 24th.

Erm......the greens are a bit tricky, though.

P.S. No relevance at all..but do you like my new video? Isn't golf with pals great?....

John, John John, don’t give me any of that embarrassed stuff. I was going to say pi$$ but I decided not to. In all seriousness we tend to be disappointed when we miss inside say 10 feet or so. How come that changes when we sink a 20 footer, as if it was lucky. These were good putts, you maybe shut your eyes, but they were good.

Right, It’s been ratified by the Icelandic golfing committee that John Findlay is now playing off 5.

That means you’re still off 9.

Hi John / Tomo ,

Great to see two forumers doing battle on the links. Love the video aswell, John , I didn't realise the weather was always that good up in Scotland !
