Played after work last night for what I suspect might be the last time this year.
I play the vast majority of my golf at night, after work and during the week due to family / work commitments.
Our course has a loop of 7 holes which then allows an easy walk back to the clubhouse.
Teed off last night about half six - my usual time- and at ten past eight I was on the seventh tee and realised that this would be my last after work excursion when the best line to the green was to aim directly for the moon. :D
A good drive and a wedge later and I was taking my only birdie putt of the evening ( missed it! - made par though :)) in proper darkness. As for the rest of the round, I couldn't hit a coo ower the arse wi' a banjo in broad daylight!
The guy I picked up a game with has been a member of my club for 40 years and says that the course is in the worst condition that he's ever seen due to this years weather!

I am sad! :( A big part of my week has now gone till spring time.

(craigmitchell_qs hangs his head in abject misery.)

I bloody hate the winter and this is the beginning of the end for this years golf.

Still, at least I can still talk about it now and keep up with the banter on the forum- might make it that wee bit more bearable.

Cue the first all weather golf course to open up with floodlit fairways.....
I feel your pain matey, since I started my new job (18 months ago now) I can only play sat and sunday without having to take time off as I dont finish until at least 5.30. I used to be able to slink off work at 4.00-4.30 and play in the midweek hat competition, not any more. Bah!

I haven't played or practiced after work for several weeks now and a large chunk of my golf will be weekends only. As a wearer of glasses I find hitting anything longer than a 7 iron at a driving range in the dark a waste of time as my eyes simply aren't good enough on a poorly lit range to follow the flight of the ball making practice sessions meaningless.

What I tend to do is play on Saturday AM with my regular partners or in club competitions, and then go to the range on Saturday after a quick lunch and work on any errors and then have a more thoughtful and dedicated practice session on the Sunday. At least that way my swing ticks over

I knew there was a reason I was lookiing at those head touches in Tesco's the other week.

Noticed this myself earlier on this week, nights are fair drawing in!

A local course near me is talking of moving onto winter greens due to the amount of rain, greenkeeper is scared of serious damage to the greens if he continues to allow traffic on them for much longer, also states he cant cut them properly as they are so wet. Infact he did a micro-core last week and he says that the holes filled back up within the hour due to the amount of water. Thats incredible!

West of Scotland summers dont you love them!

My course is in the best condition I have ever seen it. Warm rain has been prefect growing conditions, and it has only been closed a couple of times. The bunkers are a bit beaten down though if I am being picky.

It is the only time at my place since I became a member some 20 years ago that we have not seen brown fairways at some point thro the season. It is so green you would think we have had a new pop up sprinkler system installed and our greenie has been using it every day!!

Played today on a local course which I thought might be dry...er. Oh how wrong I was, at least I got a reduction there as my own course is closed & there is an arrangement.

Ended up covered in mud all up the trousers & the fairways like playing off a wet sponge, as I found out when I took a fairway wood off the deck & ended up covering myself from head to foot... Only concelation is it was a crackin' shot.

Just looked out the window at home & its nearly 8pm & its def' dusk.

I might not be able to play as much now but at least I can look forward to shorter rough, more receptive greens and trees that look far less threatening without their foliage.

I was thinking about something John_Findlay said to me at the Glen day out and I have just worked out the following:

I have played in 4 medals that have been abandoned this year.

I have not even got as far as the 1st tee in 3 medals.

I have only played without waterproofs on 2 occassions.

We have had preferred lies on and off all season.

I have played with J_F three times ... all waterproofed up and had 2 rounds rained off.

I am going onto Dragons Den with my new invention .... the Lyle and Scott life jacket.

got out this evening after work at about 5. a bit rushed but got 18 in by 7.30 - even managed one or two decent scores on a few holes. unfortunately a few bad ones as well.
Didn't realise how quickly I'd got round; benefit of the electric trolley and not meeting anyone until the 15th, and they let me through on 16.
