Am looking at joining a new club after leaving Ranfurly Castle and there are a few in the mix for one reason or another. If anyone has any comments on the following or suggestions of others would be greatly appreciated.

Bishopbriggs - Only 5 mins from my work but know very little about it

Balmore - Also close to my work and heard lots of good things especially the practice area

Milngavie - Heard its a nice course but the midgies are horrific in the summer.

Thanks

Balmore or Milngavie will both offer a great test of golf Scott.

I wouldn't imagine the midges to be any less severe at Balmore than Milngavie. Why not phone both and explain you have just left your current club, your in their area and are considering joining. Ask them for either a complimentary round or a reduced green fee.

The worst they can do is say "no"! If they do say no, a winter greenfee at both should be under £20 anyway.

I really enjoy Milngavie, Balmore I have not played but like you I've heard great things about it. I'm also sure that with both clubs you get onto every course in Dumbartonshire for a reduced green fee.

I'll get you over to Old Ranfurly for a hit once it warms up a bit and we get a bit of growth, see you in July then!

Balmore is nice, big plus point is that they have recently replaced their greens in a rolling improvement programme. Nice course, good test of golf.

One of the guys at my work is a member at the Briggs. Says it is a really good course, but gets quite wet over the winter. So the question is do you play lots of winter golf, if the answer is yes then I may have helped narrow it down to 2 courses for you.

Do like my golf in the winter but will give it a try.

Would like to join Balmore but just need to convince the other guys i join with that its worth the money. Will see what happens.

I'm a member at BBriggs it does not bode overly well from October to feb usually if there is a lot of rain but generally it's not too bad during winter. Spent a lot on drainage over last 3-4 years which should help from probably this year more than last few due to teething problems with pumps and drain blockages which have been worked hard on this winter.

In summer it's superb condition and a tough track with some superb holes

I'm playing Milngavie next week Scott and if you phone them they will give you a complimentary round to try the course.
