Off down to Wentworth this year again with a few friends and wanting to play a course on the way home on the Monday.

Ideally it would be on our way home back to the north east and not too far from the hotel we are stopping in at Heathrow.

Any recommendations?

I think Thorny Park is nearby and was ok when i played it about 4 years ago

Realise this is the wrong direction for you, but why not go round to Walton Heath on the Monday and watch the US Open qualifier. Unlike Wentworth there are usually no ropes to keep you away from the players and is a much more relaxed affair completely.

I would have invited you to my course, but I'm off to Hillside. It's only 20 minutes (30 with the traffic) from Wentworth. You could try Downshire in Wokingham (pay and play). Very good course for a municipal

Aye wrong direction and we are wanting to play golf and not watch more golf.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Stockley Park is a stones throw from Heathrow. Ive not played it for 10 years but when I did, about 5/6 times I liked it. Nearly every hole is a dog leg but it was interesting enough. Not sure what it's like now though, although Id like to go back and have a knock round it, now I can actually play. Club house was nice too.

Edit - Just googled it and it's now called Stockley Pines, I guess thats because the trees have grown a bit!

why not go round to The Shire? Great challenge and £50 will get you 18 holes and a bit of fodder

2 mins off the M25 and just past the M1 coming from Heathrow

vested interest as a past member there but can't recommend enough!

Highly recommended! But be prepared to beaten up by the 1st hole (and a few others!) unless you have you swing and distance sorted from the off! Course marginally suffering from Winter and plenty of maintenance at the weekend (but will come right very quickly) but greens were absolutely top notch as usual!

Oh and be aware that the 12th hole is back, behind you, and up the hill from the 11th green. Had to help a couple of 1st time visitors who got lost a couple of weeks ago!

The Penne Arabiatta is top notch too!

Denham, Gerrards Cross, Burnham Beeches, Beaconsfield

All good, plus there is The Buckinghamshire also at Denham, Looks like you are from Darlington, so why not do something en route back oop north
Just up the A1 from the M25 is Welwyn Garden City, a lovely course with great bacon rolls, ask ArnoldArmChewer

Just an update on this, looking to play the Saturday now on the way down.

Any other suggestions for courses around an hour or so away from Heathrow?

We are traveling down from the North East taking the M1 then on to the M25 so ideally somewhere nearish.

Thanks.
