I'll be in Fowey for a week in early September. Could anyone recommend a local course that I could play one day during my stay?

Doesn't need to be a particularly prestigious venue, just somewhere friendly that I can get 18 holes on.

Cheers,

Paul

How far are you prepared to drive Paul (for how long is more relevant in that part of the world!)? 1 hr radius or less?

Up to 1 hour would be OK, but ideally as close as possible. A coastal course would be be great for the views. Carlyon Bay seemed to fit the bill, albeit a little pricey.

Carlyon Bay is quite pleasant - and a good test. Nice views if you can ignore/appreciate the ECC Drying/Loading plant at Par.

Lostwithiel is similar category, maybe slightly better imo. A few killer left and right dog-legs up hills early and a fun Par 3 down to the Fowey River flats from where you've just battled your way up! Great views, but not coastal.

Llanhydrock is apparently very good, but not one I've played.

Foe a special treat - St Enedoc Church Course. Twilight rate reduces the expense and, imo, worth whatever it costs for the views, aroma and golf anyway! John Betjamin's golf poem is about the 14th (I think) and he's buried in the Churchyard!

Never played it but we're heading to Porthpean for a week in September. Booked a cottage on the golf course. Gets reasonable reviews on Golfshake.
