Looking for people's recommendations for some nice courses in Yorkshire? Brothers birthday coming up and wanting to go play on some new grass to make a change from our home course. Preferably under £50, and never played links golf so would not mind travelling to the East coast to try it out, any suggestions appreciated.

When are you looking at playing, lot of difference in price between winter and summer green fees.

Have you got county cards? If so you can play Ganton for £50

Seaton Carew or Cleveland GC and Wynyard GC, 2 excellent links and an inland course that has hosted The Seve Trophy, all within 15-20 miles of each other and plenty of cheap hotels, premier inn etc

After 2.30 so might be pushed for light. Its also in really good condition as my mate played it last weekend. He said the greens were lovely.

I am not far from Leeds but never played any of the courses, any in particular?

I play Cookridge frequently through my university and its a decent enough course to play when the weather is nice so may not be worth the risk in March!

Moor Allerton is an excellent course and Sandmoor although I've not played it has been highly recommended

Ganton is a cracking course, with a tough finish, and normally playable all year round.

Moor Allerton has 27 cracking holes and should be ok in March, as long as no course maintenance is going on.

Your county card may be free, if part of a private club, worth checking with your secretary.

I would certainly recommend Sand Moor, as a member, however be aware that there are currently three holes closed for work on bunkers around greens. They should be reopened in March, but something to check if you are considering it. There are loads of other good courses in north Leeds, Moortown, alwoodley, headingley, scarcroft, Moor allerton. As mentioned, ganton is worth a trip but ia a bit of a trek.

Moor Allerton and Sand Moor, both near Leeds are very nice. Knaresborough is a favourite of mine, Pannal is a very good test. It is a strong area for courses, whichever one you pick you are unlikely to be disappointed. Plenty of good names mentioned already.
