Hi Everyone,
I am new to the forums but really glad I have found it

This weekend I am off on holidays with the missus but wanted to sneak a few rounds in while I am there. Could anyone advise on the best approach to getting on some of the courses around the Villamoura area considering I do not have a handicap certificate yet? I am by no means a beginner and have been playing for 5 years or so but fear I may have no luck getting on any courses. Would appreciate some advice......

Thanks

In my experience, if you look like a golfer, you wouldnt be asked for Handicap certificate etc. However, dont bank on it.

You'll need deep pockets though, I would think it would be at least 100Euros per round.

9 holer Sheraton Pine Cliffs - great course, and all sorts of abilities. Plus they shouldn't be too booked up, so you ought to get on without problem.

I have played some of the top courses in the UK, Spain, Portugal and the USA and the ONLY course I've had to produce a handicap certificate at was Villamura!

Same as that....

If you travel up to Quinta Do Lago you may well get on there without one. I did when I first started hacking around.
My divot off the 1st is still there some 23 years later

Thanks everyone - I will do some research tonight but my gut feeling is I will head to the 9 hole course for starters and see how I get on.

Will let you guys know how I got on when I return from the sunshine ;)

I have played six courses in that area and have never been asked to produce a handicap certificate.

All great courses in excellent condition. the oceianico group offer some good deals.

Hi

I have been going to Villamoura for 15 years now and the Old Course is the only one where I have always been asked for a certificate and they enforce this rigidly.

All the courses are looking for business so I wouldnt worry about it too much and there are some good deals out there at the moment. Most people are out there from all Nationalities who are playing recreational / holiday golf.

If you can get down and play Faldo or O'Connor they are definately worth a go (35 mins away by car) and have great practice facilities. If you havent a car and are around Villamoura then I would go to Pinhal, Millenium, Victoria, Vila Sol or Quinta North or South.

If you got some Euro to burn then San Lorenzo is a class act or maybe even Monte Rei which is a bit further up the Coast.

Have a great break and enjoy your golf and get back into your game.

Maybe a little late with this but you will get good deals as its still out of season, deals usually end around mid september. I played both oconner and faldo, 65 each including club hire and buggy. Other courses can be between 35 and 50 euros.

Its best to pop into some local estate agents and pick up the 'golf and property' magazine. Its got a detailed write up of 25+ courses with layouts pictures and contact numbers. They are very keen for you custom at this time of year and you may barter with them.

Also try to play early morning or mid afternoon, golfing around midday there is just too hot!!
