I'm keen to play at a course I haven't played previously on Sunday 29th and am looking for suggestions.

Ideally sub £35.
Also within a reasonable distance of Clapham Junction (one person travelling via train) and the Walton-on-Thames region (one person travelling by car).

Looking for a course with good variety in terms of holes. Also looking for somewhere which won't result in a 5-hour round and a course where visitors can tee off in the morning.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

Thanks,
Lewis

Assuming I've put you off Merrist Wood (sorry!). Close by to Merrist Wood is;

Pine Ridge - nice course, quite open, can be a long round though
Chobham GC - not played there, not sure of non-members tee times but a par 68 so short
Windlesham - not sure of price, avoid if it rains a day or two before!
Traditions - a personal favourite, a bit further away (15 / 20 mins from Merrist Wood) but a gem IMO

We had an issue trying to find somewhere similar to you last summer for a family comp as most courses didn't have public tee spots before Midday (ish) on a Sunday.

In the end we played Hoebridge as it had this facility and was easy for everyone to get to. Obviously it's just down the road from you in Walton. It's the slow train on a Sunday from Clapham so you'd have to allow 45 mins or so on the train for your playing partner.

I'd forgotten about Traditions, that's a decent option. Even closer to you and not a million miles away from West Byfleet train station.

The one thing you'll have to look out for is the dreaded Sunday engineering works. South West Trains love a good replacement bus service!

Cheers guys.
I've played Traditions and Hoebridge many a time. Out of the two Hoebridge is my preferred option. It's a really varied course and Traditions becomes like a swampland when it rains.

Windlesham looks great but is £65 per round on the weekend. I think Chobham is similar price on the weekend.

Pine ridge looks like an option.

I too forgot about Hoebridge. Good course. Traditions can be wet too - I'd say not as wet as Windlesham. In the weather we're having (fingers crossed) it should be ok though.

Surrey National would be worth a look. Trains go to Caterham (although not sure if they go from Clapham Junction?), and it's a 5 minute car-ride from that station.

They have some great offers on at the moment, too.
