After just over a year I have finally sold my house and get to move nearer my job (hour and a half commute is killing me). The down side is that I am going to be looking for a new club to join for the upcoming season and I need to start looking at my options.

Anyone able to recommend any decent clubs in the area that are worth looking at. Ideally I am looking for somewhere with decent weekend roll ups and competitions that are drawn rather than played in people's usual groups as I will know nobody and need to find a new group that I can rely on for a game.

How far are you from here?

Having played it last year on the way to Whittington Heath, I would join in a heartbeat if I lived in that area.
One of the nicest courses I have ever played

Ooops! Just noticed that Dave has posted the same link in his post above.
Take my word for it. Get along there tomorrow and sign on the dotted line

Just had a look at Beau Desert and unfortunately they are not taking full members at the moment.

Will have a good look at the other recommendations

Has anyone tried Lichfield Golf and Country Club or Branston Golf and Country Club. My wife is also looking for gym membership and if I could join somewhere that she could go to as well then my life would be a bit easier. That said, if the courses or atmosphere are awful then they are off the list.

All of the recommendations so far look superb but may be a bit out of my price range. Those that have replied have joining fees over £1000 plus annual fees around the £1000 mark. Wish I could afford that much but that is nearly double what I pay now. Are these extreme examples or is this pretty much the average for the area?

Well Beau Desert is a no. I could join as a restricted member if I wanted but I would only be welcome to join straight away as a full member if I had a handicap of 5 or lower or had represented my county. As a restricted member I may be given limited opportunities to play at weekends for a small fee but those would be very limited. It would also be at least 3 years before I would be invited to become a full member.
