Hi all

Can you recommend me a course on the m3/south m25?

Must drain well, and accept visitors on Sunday am.

I think I'd struggle to get on the only ones I know at that time. West hill, north hants etc

I guess what I'd need is a decent public course....so not silvermere

Pine Ridge in Camberley is pretty good for drainage & is a public course. Busy, so get your tee time in early, but a good course.

Avoid Traditions in Pyrford if wet, it gets soaked and is almost unplayable (but they never really close it!).

Not played but heard good things about Chobham GC in, you guessed it, Chobham. Par 68 so a short one.

If you're after a game this Sunday, there's a few coming to my course called Merrist Wood GC at 12 midday, so you're welcome to join (see Arrange a Game section "Woking Sunday 26th").

Anyway, that's a few in the Woking area for you to mull over!

Am a member of Chobham GC, unfortunately you wont get on, on sunday morning as all tee times are booked up until 12.30.

Its actually par 69, with 6 par 3s. The total yardage is short just because of the extra par 3s and 1 less Par 5. The actual holes themselves are not short.

Merrist Wood is a good shout as Dufferman suggested. Although the 5 and half hour rounds ive had there is ridiculous. Also have they trimmed the fairways there yet?

As I said, never played there, had heard it was a 68 - had it changed recently or have I been ill-informed (not surprised if I have been!)?

When I joined Merrist Wood in April, I'd read that people had said that the fairways were 'as long as rough' but I've never seen it. The rough is really tough, but they are due for their annual chop soon so it will get a lot better in the next few weeks. Tough course, but great course IMO.

As for the 5 1/2 hour rounds, I've only played that long once, and that was at 1pm on a Saturday in the height of Summer. Most rounds played at midday are 4 1/2, in the medals its 4ish.

The SSS is 68 if thats what you're confused with? Its worth a round.

I really like Merrist Wood. But i think playing only crown golf courses would annoy me.

Pine Ridge is a good shout but used to be a notoriously slow round.
Hoebridge is a good track but a bit further away from the M3.
Downshire can get wet but wouldn't have thought we've had enough rain yet to cause too many issues.

I'd second that, it's a Crown Golf Course and always in great condition. Downshire Golf Complex in Bracknell is a very nice, well run municipal course. And Although Dufferman said not to try Traditions in Pyrford Crown Golf have another course almost opposite which is a really nice course if I remember correctly. Not sure on how well it drains in the winter mind.

Last one I can think of is there is a lovely course in Worplesdon near Guildford. Although I am not sure if its a members only course, my brother-in-law is a member there and its brilliant.

When are you talking about and how many of you are there Nick? Happy to sign you in at the Army if that works out. Holding up ok drainage wise at the moment.

Army is a good shout. Excellent course. Hartley Witney might be another option?

Blue Mountain drains well and you shouldn't have too much trouble getting on Sunday am (after the competition groups have gone off). If you let me know when you had in mind I could make sure that you get some tee times. Its about 10 mins from M3 (Bracknell).
I might even join you on a non-competition day and if you have space.

Sherfield Oaks has a couple of 18 hole courses. It can get a bit wet but you should be OK getting on.

Talk more tomorrow if you are going to Liphook?

Cheers gents, its not until nov 22nd hence the drainage question.

I'm just meeting a couple of mates from kent halfway.

It may be 3, perhaps 4 of us

I'll give it some thought. The only problem with this kind of thing is that I want to play somewhere half decent, but anywhere that will have us on a sunday lunchtime, may not be:o

I am going to liphook, don't forget your tie:thup:

I was going to point out that Cuddington is 35+ miles from M3/M25

But if you are travelling that far it's not so bad and the kent group might appreciate the shorter trip

Well worth it

Wouldn't put Cuddington that far out but definitely worth a shout. I was at Downshire on Monday and in good condition with no issues with it being too wet

I'm off to the Downshire Saturday (never played there which is a crime being so close to it) and hopefully the rain won't be too heavy tomorrow to make it boggy. Expecting a long round though... 10am tee after a comp goes out!!!
