Went to the practise area today for a bit then played 9 holes and noticed the greenskeepers where hand cutting the greens, its January for christ sakes and 11 degrees very unusual for us up here at this time of year. Hows everyone else's course looking ?

not been there for a week or so but expect ours is very very wet. Had heavy rain at the weekend just as the frost was coming out of the ground, not a good combination. Hopefully the winds forecast this week help it to dry out a fair bit

I rocked up on sunday, looked around and then went home... WET

We're fairly soft, a few areas of standing water but eminently playable.
They started hollow-tining the greens today.....does this sound like a good time to be doing it?

Hollow or solid tines ? They've been doing ours all Winter with solid tines to help with drainage

You'll be golfed out before the season starts Patrick haha. Only day i haven't played or hit balls is new years day as it was raining, I'm taking advantage of the mild conditions

Down here in West and East Sussex it rained all day on Saturday. Weathermen said widespread frost on Sunday! I phoned the course on Sunday am to be told they were open for the Stableford comp. There was not a bit of the white stuff anywhere, in fact it was quite mild!
Apart from a bit of standing water on a few fairways, the course was in remarkable condition considering all the rain that fell the day before!

And I played fairly well, scoring 30 points, compared to 19 in the last comp! :o

Message for Tommo - those irons are the business!! Really enjoying hitting them :fore:

:thup::thup:

Played on Sunday to discover 18 winter tees, fair enough but 30yds further on was a bit much, and 18 pathetic winter greens. Really poor effort. Ground was a bit soggy, the course is not good for drainage. Hoping the greens don't stay that way for too long.

Got out 3 times during the holidays and the course is in super nick for the time of year. Temp greens one of the days due to frost but apart from that it was great to get out. Did have to battle against some hail stones and 4-5 club wind on one of the other days. :D

Played in freebie promotion day at Northop yesterday. The front 9 partly winds its way through a housing estate and is quite enclosed and doesn't get a lot of sun. Three of the greens were frozen solid and a couple more still had melting ice on them but there were no temporary greens. The back 9 opens up a bit and on some of the holes it was a bit of a lottery trying to find the balls in the muddy fairways.

Ha Ha, i bet quite a few on here would be scared to play in Tues conditions let alone Fridays;)

Ha ha, Tuesday afternoon looks not too bad at least it'll be dry ;) Good job there's no trees up here. Our Winter League is played on a Sunday morning and I'd be surprised if someone doesn't give it a go.

We were shut on Saturday due to the rain, but course was open yesterday, we tried to play our captain/pro match but got claxoned off on the 3rd tee due to the recurring fog (we had waited two hours to tee off). Went for a drink in the bar only for the fog to finally lift so we played 9 holes which was handy as I have some lessons coming up and it gave the pro an idea of just how much he has to do to sort me out, still 2 over for 9 holes wasn't bad but parted with £2 in any event.

Considering the weather the course was in really great shape.
