Course closed but appearing quiet

Sounds OK. If you're up for a game PM me. It'd have to be a quick 9 holes mid-afternoon-ish on a weekend, as I have family committments (not really fair on the missus to up and go play golf for 5 hours leaving her to deal with 2 very young kids by herself).

Who knows what is reasonable to you? Apparently just one closure is enough to send you heading for the exit door. For me, I know in advance when the course is likely to be closed, I know when the comps are on too. Often if the course is closed I can get a courtesy somewhere else (if I plan ahead), so I don't see a problem with it being closed a number of times a year. There are 365 days, so if I can only play on 355 I don't feel that hard done by.

The what is reasonable comment i made was actually asking you. For the record i feel closures for bad weather and that is it. However tee closures for certain periods of time to accomodate Societies and comps would be acceptable, we play off 1st and 10th. I didn't say i would leave just because of one closure i sais i was already considering it due to financial reasons. My point was simply is this normal because i don't no, the answer appears to be yes and that it annoyed me because the place was very quiet and they couldn't compromise. As for too many comps/Societies this month and last 26 each and two closures a month since the beginning of May. Many of the comps are for Vets and ladies.

I guess the lesson of the day is put up with it whilst hoping i get a round in next week. Maybe i should look ahead and post in the arrange a game forum for future closure dates. Incidently my only available day next week is also the only day with no comps.

The reason the place was quiet when you turned up was that the course was closed !

At my club, we will hit a period at the end of September where although the course will be open, the greens staff will be working on the greens preparing them for winter. It's in the fixture card, but I bet there will be people turning up and finding they cant play the full course as they would wish. The greens staff will work round all the greens over a two week (weekday) period, so on most days there will be 1 or 2 greens out of use.

It's just one of the things that needs to be done to keep the grrens in reasonable nick over the winter and give them a good start next year.

We've got a Junior Open on next Friday and I am sure the greens satff willbe very evident most of the week working away to make the place look good. No problem with that whatsoever.

Now we are open during racing and only lose 6 holes in Royal week for helicopter landings and the practice ground as a coach park

You want to go to Wellshurst in Sussex.
Judging by the state of the place they shut the first and second fairways off for banger racing every third Sunday
;)

Our course was shut mon, tues and weds this week for work on the course, but it was open for play after 4pm. We are lucky that we have 36 holes so at least we have one course open for play. We have a societies(weekdays only), county events and our own big comps that shut the courses and tees during the week and at weekends, even with two courses it can get a little frustrating at times, so i can see how it w
ould effect an 18 hole setup.
We also do not have bookable tee time, just turn up and play.

Don't think my course is ever closed for comps. People usually go out before 1st tee time and after the last. Can't see the problem with that.

Golfmmad.

What ever one of our courses are shut for a comp, it is open for play an hour after the comp has finished teeing off. But if it is an early start(7.30/8.00am) you are not allowed to go off before the comp starts as the green staff are out cutting the greens.

I wish they would do the greens work before our medals. Regular as clockwork, if you're among the early tee times, along come the greenskeepers and everything goes on hold. start on the first before the first group out and stay ahead - but no, doesn't start until the second or third tees off, starts on 18 then goes to 1.

We have a few days when the course is closed but they are not too much of an issue as tend to be mid week.

Some clubs in my area have arrangements amongst themselves whereby if the course is closed then members can play for free or at a reduced rate at another club in the area. Seems like a good idea to me, pitty my club does not have such a scheme in place.
