Hi all,

Had a free SAM session at American Golf and was shown the graphical and statistical representation of what many people have said to me in the past.

My putter face it open, my shoulders are open, I swing outside the line on the way back and cut across the ball on the way through.

So other than everything I'm in great shape.

I had a go with a counterbalanced Oddysey and felt it was pretty decent at keeping me on line, though I'm not a fan of the rounded Super Stroke grip (prefer the flat front and width of a pistol grip). From short range on a carpet, pretty good, but then I find most putters are. I wonder how these perform on lag putts/in the real world?

Anyone made the leap and lept back again, or are these the dogs bits?

Yes, made a big difference to my putting immediately

Could be the insert, the superstroke or the counter balance, whatever it is it's working

tried a counterbalance for a few weeks last year, struggled badly from distance with it so went back to a normal weighted putter, know plenty who swear by them though

I am in a period of adjustment... Struggling to adjust I think.

As it happens I think its having an insert that is the strange bit for me.

I turned my putter into a counter balanced one, with a superstroke sl, with the 50 gram weight. I like it, and putt well with it. However, I used to have a bit of a forwards press, and with this I could be quite aggressive. Counter balancing rewards, or promotes a smooth stroke. I'm more of a dribbler now, and I'm not sure it suits me. I miss whacking it in the hole!

Thanks for the replies all, and I realise there's no substitute for practicing but im willing to give something like this a go on the basis that it makes sense to me, balancing out what is otherwise a bit of a wandering stroke. Sound all, may just take the plunge!

I find the CB putters too heavy, I think a putter is a very personal thing. We had a Pro day the other week and there was a bag rammed with Scotty putters, the CB's weighed a tonne compared to my Odyssey Blade, there was a normal Scotty Fang putter I took a shine too though, I just can't justify the cost of them however a personal match they are.

I've only tried them in shops, and for a short practice on our putting green. I quite like the Odyssey Works Tank Versa Rossie I Putter, got on well with it each time I tried, but would need to try it in action on the course before making any thoughts of replacing my trusty old Scotty. Happy with my current putting right now so no real reason to change anyways.

After a lot of playing around and buying different CB putters (also had a Tank #1 which was great!) I installed this to my SC Squareback - https://superstrokeusa.com/product/pistol-gt-tour-countercore/ and along with lots of practise has helped me no end. The big downside I find with CB puters is I can't install my Game Gold chip in the grip, which mean I forget to tag a lot of putts and so hardly use my GG much anymore...

Thanks folks, took the one I liked in the shop for a test drive round our practice green and have to say, I hated it.

Call me a traditionalist but it just felt weird on lag putts and I wasn't holing enough short ones to justify the sacrifice. What I have found in my experimentation this year is that I can't get on with chunky grips. Give me a normal width pistol grip and I feel like I can lag things to the right postcode, with a chunky one I'm all at sea. Probably means I’m too handsy, but I literally can’t change anything else this season! Work for winter perhaps…

Went for a #7 Fang RX with the soft white hot insert and an old fashioned grip, couldn’t get on with the black insert of the Versa (nor the superstroke grip) but my buddy fell in love with it so it’s gone to a good home. Personally I think it’s because it’s so short. The one thing I did learn was 33” is the max I should carry and 32” is probably spot on for my short arse frame.

Cheers y'all

I have moved to an odyssey 2 ball fang CB putter. Takes a while to get used to, but the results are more consistent. Helps that it's also lower lofted than my Scotty....

I have heard a couple of solutions to this.

The first was to snap off the small plastic projection and then superglue the tag to the end of the grip.
The second one was to get a small cork and press the tag in to it and just keep that in your pocket and tag it each time you use the putter

Changing to a centre shafted putter has made a massive difference to my putting, even my boss has gone over to one, he was having issues with his 'Scotty Cameron' so he borrowed mine for a comp and didn't want to give it back...

Would the improvement be because of the centre shaft, or because of the lack of offset? Are you perchance right handed but left eye dominant………..?
