Anyone out there using a counter balanced putter? Just wodering how people have found it has affected their stroke and distance control. Am a reasonably solid putter from distance, but seem to be a bit twitchy of late on the shorter ones.

Interested to hear peoples thoughts on them and how people feel that they have changed their game, if at all!

Cheers,

Doug

I bought a Scotty Cameron Futura X putter dual balance but really didnt get on with the counterbalance at all and have shifted it on already. Whilst it did help provide a stable clubhead I found it affected my distance control greatly and I didnt really feel fully in control of the putter head at all. Probably didnt help that a by product of this type of putter is an oversized thick grip and Ive never got on with them in a putter, I like to feel a bit more with a thinner grip in my fingers and do like a small amount of wrist break in longer putts which I find helps distance control

Why does it have to come with a thick oversized grip? You can use a Tour Lock Pro to weight them - fits in a normal grip.

To answer the OP, the only way to see if it works for you is to try one. I found that when I shortened my putter, my distance control was very poor without the weight.

I think counter balance putters are very good. Keeps my hands out of the stroke and I am holing a lot more putts between 5/10 feet. I also can judge long putts with it. I made my putter it was a TM belly putter but I cut it down to 37" and put a counter balance grip on it. Works great for me.

I have the cleveland smartsquare counter balanced putter and its excellent for shorter putts. I am struggling to get the ball to the hole on a longer putts due to the increased weight but im hoping this will improve with practice.

I got myself a #7 Tank last year, the putter has really helped me.

My biggest problem was getting twitchy on short putts and this has helped me here.

At first I found long putts difficult however i'm getting there now.

Tried a Odessey two ball tank putter

Felt ok swinging but didn't like the connection with the ball

Prefer most of the weight in the head

Probably the best club in my bag is the Daddy Long Legs, love the weighting, nice and stable stroke with it (straight back and through). Don't really have an issue with distance but putting is a strong point for me, so I wonder if that helps rather than having an excuse :)

play with a daddy longlegs but i'm not sure i really notice a massive difference from a non counterbalance putter.

but i haven't felt the need to replace it so it must be performing ok

I've got a counter balanced Scotty Cameron Combi which I'm playing around with at the moment.

Putting has really improved from the 4-10ft range and even finding my distance putting has got much more accurate. Has taken a bit of getting used to though coming from a 33inch Scotty Studio Design which weighed nothing!

I guess thats how the retail versions of them come (or at least the ones ive seen). Funnily enough was talking to a club builder and he recommended I try slightly shorter shaft with a normal grip and a tour lock weight inside the grip as a much better option. May try again at some point but for now happy to revert to normal weighted putter

Got the Odyssey Tank #1 at the end of last year. Perfect. More solid on shorter putts, and longer putts it doesn't feel as though you have to hit them hard, just make a consistent stroke and happy days!
