I just got the results from yesterdays competition and I am sitting in 4th place, 2nd to 4th all have 40 points, 2nd place clearly has a better back 9, but, 3rd & 4th (me) both have the same 46 gross for the back 9 but my back 6 is 3 shots lower at 28 to his 31, so, why am I not 3rd?

What else if anything is taken into consideration? I thought it was just countback starting with the back 9, then 6 then 3 to determine positions?

normally the software used by the club will determine the countbacks. If its a stableford then it will be based on points not on score.

Yep! If he's a higher - cetainly if 2 or more higher - then his points on the back 9 will be more. That presumes both that SIs are as per recommendation and club's countback process is 'normal'. Neither are actually 'rules'.

That wasn't points, that was gross score, we both had a gross of 46 on the back 9 but I had a lower gross of 28 against his 31 on the back 6, I'll check what the stableford points were but I'd have thought it was on gross not points otherwise it falls in favour of him being a higher handicapper?

No, the last would 3 put me in even a better position!

It'll go with the format of the day so stableford points, but even in medal for the nett comp it would be his nett score against yours.

It will be on points Robin. Gross score on the back 9 doesn't enter into it as it's a points competition.
The other way they decide it is on the beauty of the golf swing of those concerned.

Yeah just worked it out, he was a 25 handicapper and had me with 2 shots on the index 7 18th for 4 points, bloody high handicappers with too many shots parring holes

Oh well, 4th its is and still a nice little 1.2 cut

Cat III isn't all it's cracked up to be either Robin.

No you wouldn't - can't you lose gracefully. If you both had gross 46, then he would beat you as you both would deduct half handicap from the 46, ergo you lose.
