Played with three mates last week, one of them reared up quite vocally towards one of my other mates because he was using his SkyCaddie GPS stating that they were "unfair" "cheating" etc. etc. He really did throw his toys out of his pram....

8 of us are out playing today and we've "fixed" the groupings so that this guy is in a fourball with myself, the same mate he had a go at last week, and another mate of mine. Thing is, all three of us have SkyCaddies and are going to pull them out at the same time on the first tee in front of the moaner.

Should be fun

I am sure he will end up trying to sneak a look at his yardage by the turn!

I dont understand why some people want to make the game harder...? Sure, the GPS may tell you that it is 132 yards to the pin, but it wont hit the ball for you!! :)

That's what I told him last week when he was having a go at my mate Ray. He wouldn't have it...

But then Ray nobbed his ball about 120 yards along the deck so it kinda backed up what I was saying.
He is still against them though.
;)

Haha Love it Smiffy.

I am still yet to meet someone in person, who objects to them.

Even people have never seen them before seem impressed once they know what they do.

I tend to start a round using mine and recording stats but then forget before a shot and it ends up in the bag unused for the rest of the round, mind you I play the same track week in and out so no which club to use on most holes.

The only thing I think is a wee bit unfair with GPS systems is that it gives you accurate yardages to the green from any ohter hole whereas a strokesaver only helps you if you can stay on the hole you are playing.

I played on Friday with my brother in law and used mine for the first time in 7 months and it helped me no end. I did have a bit of a mare on the first 4 holes but did the next 14 in 3 over par.

Ask MR torn face what driver he uses and what ball he uses and unless he says a Dunlop 65i and a Persimmon wooden headed driver then tell him to shut up about technology.

I dont see what is actually wrong with them either way your going to hit the ball with the club the same way and its going to do the exact same thing weather you think its 130 to the pin and that says 132 its like 2 yards who cares.

I hate the things, and sincerely hope that they are never allowed onto my own course, its just against the ethics of the game.

I hope they never let any hacker over 9 h'cap onto my course as they slow the place down :D

Golf's a tough game. Technology comes along and makes it a tad easier. If it goes too far it's made illegal by the powers that be.

If it ain't illegal, and you can afford to take advantage of it, you're mad not to. Unilaterally banning it isn't going to do any good.

Tell your make to smell the heather and relax. There's worse things in life. When I was in my 20s I though buggies should be banned - nowadays I'm counting the days 'till I use one.

If he could afford a caddy, would he use one to help him with yardages ? ( and I bet he's get help lining his putt up as well, wouldn't he - blimmin cheat :p )

Good one Smiffy - hope he boils all the way round!!

Against the ethics of the game to know a yardage? So strokesavers,caddies,150 yard markers etc etc are against the ethics of the game as well?

I don't understand.............

Do it Jon, and when you forget to charge the battery and feel like crying, you'll wonder how you ever played with out.

And before anyone says it takes anything away from judgement etc, it doesn't. Infact it improves it. Just knowing how far you have to carry the front bunker or a yardage to the back available in no more time than than looking for a centre yardage is brilliant.

At the end of the day it is no dofferent from using a paper course planner, infact it is probably quicker hence reduces slow-play.

I really am converted.

Wont be buying just yet however, havent decided on belfry yet either as going away in june and want to go away again in september again and it is bloody expensive when you have to have a suite as opposed to a hotel room.

I think they have a use but not for amateurs. Knowing distances means jack if its up hill, into a wind not forgetting lie and condition of the ground. I have found gps can be a few yards out as proved when my sat nav stated I was parked on a supermarket roof during the week, a reading backed up by the gps on my phone (samsung omnia).
As mentioned above, the only place I can see them being handy are when you miss a fairway and have no fast way of telling distance to the green, but then again, surely you should be at a disadvantage for missing in the first place?
This debate will continue as long as there is indecision between clubs as to whether to ban or endorse them.
Our club has banned them and if I came up against anyone using them in an open day away from home etc, I wouldnt protest but I would be trying my best to bury them :D

My olivia is 2yrs 4months, so if she is knackered early she goes in the bedroom whilst me and the mrs can still stay up in the lounge or balcony areas.

Would be a right downer if she wanted to go to bed at 7pm and all we had was a standard room as we would have to go to bed also and sit there in near-silence to avoide waking her up.

Fair enough, just wait until you have 3 kiddiewinkles! Anytime we go away now we have to rent either a house or like last time, a bungalow within the resort grounds.

Back to topic! Apologies.
