Looking for a new cordless drill or two because my old Bosch one is a bit old and the last battery that I have for it lasts about 30 mins.

I've been looking at Screwfix and they seem to have some good deals on the reputable brands ie Dewalt, Makita, Bosch etc.

Is it better to go for a set where you get a drill/driver and the separate impact drill? I like the small modern drivers, my old Bosch drill did everything in one but is too big for small spaces.

Not mad into DIY but want something decent and long lasting.

My preferred choice of drills are hilti and Panasonic but I use these everyday and they earn me a living to be honest.

Hilti are expensive but imo are worth every penny. Panasonic are excellent just a bit cheaper. They also do dual voltage kit as well so one battery fits all.

The most important part of a drill is the battery, so my advice would be to get at least a drill with 4amh.

I'd swerve screwfix and try www.its.co.uk they are very good.

We bought an Erbauer drill driver from Screwfix earlier this year. Effectively an "own brand" but have been very impressed. Good battery life and comes with a spare. Solid, powerful and great for DIY usage. It's had a lot of use over the summer and so far can't fault it.

Doubt you'll get anything better than the Makita for the money.

Mates in 'the trade' rate DeWalt...
If for no other reason, if it goes wrong, its a relatively short hop to their place [DeWalts]...
Where they can hand it in and get the loan of another one whilst theirs is in for repair...
Obviously not much cop if you live a distance from Slough...

De walt, Makita or Bosch.
I will just add that I've dropped my Dewalt impact driver off ladders, scaffold towers and several other high places, and it's landed hard. It's still going after 4 years Trade work

DeWalt everyday of the week, had Makita's and they're good but DeWalt is the mutts nutts, I've got them all across the range.

Have a look at the Ryobi one battery range I've got the 18v drill and its more than adequate for home use. You only need one batery for the whole range so the next time you need a tool you just buy the tool and save on the price of a battery.

Milwaukee offer the best compromise between price and quality, they sit between makita/dewalt and hilti/festool. Picked up an m18 combi and impact driver set for £250 from tool station. Bargain!

It really depends on what type of work you're planning on tackling. If its just general DIY then any of the main brands are good enough. I would go for 18v for light household work - De-Walt, Bosch, Makita etc.
You did mention 2 drills, so I'd recommend the small lightweight Bosch ixo, a fantastic bit of kit for screw driving.
I was in the Blind business and it was a god send for light work. I've been out of the game for 3 years and the drill has been in the garage and has not been used once. I was fitting some cornicing in my Kitchen and used it and the battery was still charged - the beauty of lithium batteries!

Nah,Festool is the mutts nutts.

yeah agree about festo, had my router for over 20 years.
but in the real world where money is on the tight side,
bosch blue all the way,ive just has my combi drill replaced because it burnt out after 10 odd years, went and got another 1.simples.most of my gear is bosch,a few dewalts, festo, makita.and my gear is used daily being a chippy.

my bosch sds corded drill lasted about 16 years before dying,so yes i am a bosch fan.
