A couple of months ago I upgraded my irons from Ping S57s to Ping S56s, complete with new corded Ping grips, hoping that the corded grips would be somehow "better" than the standard rubber ones.

What I've found is that they offer less grip. Am I missing something. What is the advantage meant to be?

When I used corded grips I certainly found more grip in the wet but over the years have found it easier to keep grips dry with better bags and just being more careful in the rain.

Generally they should be better but only if you clean them regularly to keep the cord raised and rough.

I have just ordered leather grips, I'll update you with my results. I use multi compund at present but I have a Ping ID8 cord on my three wood and think its a great grip.

I used to use corded grips for years.

The best ones i used were the Lampkin Crossline Cord, better grip in wet weather.
A couple years ago i changed all my grips to Lampkin Crossline grips, my first non cord set of grips. i found them to have less grip in the wet but much better in normal conditions.
Corded grips do tend to last longer.

Ping Cord grips are some of te best on the market but you should use what you are most comfortable with.

They just tend to be more hardwearing rather than offer extra grip i have found. Depends how many balls you hit and how soft your hands are :)
