Coombe Hill - Thoughts?

Looking at course bookings for my society in 2016.

Anyone played here? Is it worth the cash?

Thanks

A lovely course and a great halfway hut!

I played it for free as they are on our reciprocal list at my club. What's the deal you've got?

Their society prices for 36 holes are around £130. This is what my society usually does -

OPTION 2 £125 per head
Coffee/Danish
18 holes, 3-course Lunch
18 holes, Selection of Sandwiches

I'm trying to tick off the top 100 courses in England and this is one of them, but in terms of value, this is the same price i am paying for us to go the Hankley this year.....

Hankley at that price is a relative bargain for Hankley!

Coombe Hill is supposedly similar quality, but different style course. Not played it but haven't heard a bad review - many good/great ones though!

I played it recently in a foursomes match we were drawn in. Stunning course, really really nice, some fantastic holes and I'm told that when it hardens up (like now) that the greens are lightning quick!

It's nicer and a better course than Royal Wimbledon if you ask me (which you can see from some of the fairways the other side of the valley).

I'd play there again in a heartbeat.

Thought it was a lovely course, really well presented.

Half way house is one of the best I have seen in the UK.

Fantastic course. Played there a few months ago and it was one of the best presented courses I have played. Superbly manicured and it has a really tough set of par 3's.
We played it off the back tees, and despite the fact I was driving "reasonably" well, I found it hard. Lot's of elevated greens where unless you are clattering the ball the best part of 300 off the tee you are hitting long irons/hyrbids/woods in and it's difficult to hit an elevated green with a 4 hybrid!
Played off the yellows, and with a bit of run on the ball it would be a little easier I guess.
I'd love to go back and play there again but off of friendlier tees next time (the reds????)

Thanks guys. Next question then,

Worplesdon, Woking or Coombe Hill?

All 3 are almost identical in price

Not played CH but out of the other 2 I prefer Worplesdon. Not much between them though.

I've not played Worplesdon but have played Woking.
If I had to choose between there and Coombe Hill???
Depends what sort of course I prefer.
Coombe Hill is 100% parkland.
Woking 100% heath and heather.
Having spent 13 years or more oinking it around the heath and heather course known as Crowborough my choice would be Woking.
But that's only because I have a soft spot for heath and heather courses.

I love the place. Caddied there as a kid and loved playing it every time I've visited. If I still lived in the area I'd be looking at getting in there in a heartbeat. You can only be blackballed once! I would rather play Coombe than Woking but its a personal preference
