Here are my notes on Conwy, I was looking for a course planner I had but remembered I gave it to someone. Please note this is how I saw the course others my disagree
Straight drive about 240yrds will carry the bunkers and leave you with a shortish iron to the green but its all carry. There is a big bank in front of the green which will kick your ball away. Or you can lay up before the bunkers and have more club into the green.
The course planner does not do justice to the slopes on this green take enough club to carry the bunkers.
Short par 4 you don’t need driver here but stay away from the left it’s all about the second shot the green is elevated and will kick anything short away.
A good drive to the left of the three bunkers will leave you mid iron in, the trick here is to get your line right off the tee as you can see a couple of fairways and going down the tenth is inviting but don’t do it.
Again your line off the tee is important here because you are going over gorse and cannot see the line. Just take a few steps forward and you can see what you have got in front of you.
Par three usually into the wind again take plenty of club.
Long par four, winds will be across or against, the banks at the green kick the ball in towards the green. Don’t go left off the tee loads of room on the right.
This you can get on in two with the wind behind with a good drive and a short iron.
Brutal par five into the wind your third or fourth shot into the green is over a massive mound again the planner does not do justice to it.
I managed to birdie this even with a poor drive so the wind should be behind you, shared tee with the 4th.
Placement again as this is almost a blind tee shot you walk past it as you leave the 10th so take a look where you want to be.
Two good shots can get you close to the green here but you have to be straight.
Has a big slope on this green if the pin is at the back don’t expect it to role up if you’re short.
Usually plays down wind so not to bad it’s a birdie chance.
Make sure you have a look at this hole as you walk down 14 it looks very different from the tee don’t be shy with your clubbing.
This I think is the worst hole on the course say away from the trees on the right it’s one of those dog leg right holes that seems to make you hit it to the right. You might not need a driver here so straight is good or towards and short of the gorse on the left.
Everything that lands left may kick left. So your best being down the middle or to the right bit watch the OB there.
Placement off this tee is important you will see a bank or mound from the tee if you hit it short of it you will have a blind shot to the green that’s the safe shot, to carry the mound is tight but may have it’s rewards.
Remember that all yardages in black on the course planner are to the front of the greens and some of the greens are big. Also the yardages in red are from the back of the tees so you will need to work out just where you are on the tee.
Hope you have a great day.
Cheers Rick.
