Hi all,

Rick and Pete have just released a set of course blogs from Conway Golf Club in North Wales and something about the place just made me really want to go and play. It it so beautiful and seemed to be in the middle of know where with big Welsh hills all along one side and beach down the other. I did not harm that it seemed to be flat clam on the day of filing for the most part.

Has anyone played it? Is it any good as a course? Any local hotels? (4 hrs each way for me).

I have never played lynx golf as it looks dull but I would love to go and play here!

Anyone else think it looked special?

As above Huds is a member.

Brilliant brilliant course. Good test of golf and greens are always immaculate.

Clubhouse is beautiful as well.

Never played Conway, but 80% of the golf I play is links. Links is much more interesting than inland golf and I learned to play on moorland courses, the difference is you can play an approach shot lots of different ways on a links course most of the time, also in the summer you have to judge how the ball reacts when it lands. I've seen myself hitting a 9 iron 190 yards simply because the ground is so hard you have to allow for the bounce so you simply don't just hit the green as alot of the time in the summer If you do this your ball will not stay there. It requires skill and imagination to play well. I do love inland golf but nothing compares with a good links course, also bunkers are actually penal on links courses lol

Huds is second clubb member, most of the NW crew have played it and rate it highly. I have it on reciprocal and never got around to playing it but plan to

I've got a 3-ball voucher + Hudds to play this year, maybe with your reciprocal we could arrange a mini-meet?

I watched those videos too and the course looks stunning.

But I'm generally with you I find links golf visually boring. But recently I've played a few links places locally and on the main I enjoyed them.

Still nothing beats a nice parkland course for me.

Also the great thing about links is you can play year round, wear whatever colour of trousers you like and not get them muddy. Not too many parkland courses give you that option

My wife has this crazy looking box (oohh err) in the kitchen that she puts dirty cloths in and they come out back in the draw all clean and pressed... :p

So pleased your a pro.....
And how much of your spiel relates to the original question?......oh thats right, one word "no"

Yeah good point, I love wearing my white trousers in the middle of winter

I've not played Conwy, but one of the societies I play in used to have that as one of the weekend courses before I joined (we currently play Maesdu, North Wales GC and Rhos on Sea for our weekend away). I'm told Conwy GC is excellent and a proper challenge too. It's on my list of courses to play someday.

The guy commented saying he thought links golf was dull but had never played a links course, I was simply commenting on why links is not dull and you actually need a larger variety of shots if you want to play links golf to a good standard.

Also in relation to other comments about white trousers, not me light grey is about as light as I'll personally go. Comment was meant basically to say how much drier and playable links courses are from October to April as playing many inland tracks at this time of year is a bit of a depressing experience

Not quite in the middle of no where, but nice area and have not actually played the course yet but have been on the course many times - so here we go off topic.

My father was born in a terraced house at the start of the road down to the golf course by the old gas works - his grandfather worked for the gas company and it was the last gas lit house in the town and he held out not to convert to electricity to the very end.

The marina development and all the houses there have made it far more built up than it was but when I was a kid we used to go down to the Morfa as it is called and if not on the beach or catching grasshoppers etc it was picking blackberries on the golf course.

Ah happy days all a long time ago .......

I also watched the vlog and Conwy looks well worth a visit to play, be an excuse to get out of the house on my next visit to my mother.
