What type of Irons are you using?

Are they a cavity Backed Set or are they Bladed or do you use a Combined set with Utilities in the longerclubs and more normal irons in the shorter clubs.

Just curious to see what people are using after the response to the last Post on equipment makes etc.

If your a good ball striker blades are fine. If your not, obviously choose a more forgiving club. If you saw my score today you would think i'd be nuts to buy blades, but if you saw me hit my irons you wouldnt think twice. I hit 9 fairways and struck my irons really well especially long irons. yet my short game and luck was dyer.

I agree with you mvp on the ball striker bit, but there is know way you will get the consitency with blades untill you are an acomplished golfer, mvp dont take this the wrong way but if you or anybody ever comes of a golf coure after playing in a medal round and shooting level par or better you will find that it is your short game that has got you the score rather than your ball striking, after all its the old saying, its not how, its how much.

I think cavity back clubs are so good these days that more and more low handicap (former blade users) players are using them. One of my mates plays off 1 and was a former club champion he’s now on TM R7 tp and loves them. When I think about it, I only know one really good player who uses blades. Not that blades are bad, it’s just that cavity backs are much better now. I play off 6 and I have R7s myself, I’ve tried blades and I’ve been tempted a few times but it’s CBs for me.

Divot, I know a couple of guys and they’re fantastic ball strikers and it’s their short game that’s not up to the same level……..Just a point.

TaylorMade Rac LT irons there is a slight cavity on the back but its filled with a kind of gel and metal so Im not sure if they are blades or cavities.

I play off of 4. Had a beautiful set of Mizuno MP60'S and binned them within 9 months and went back to tried and trusted Pings.

Not because I didnt like them, they were the most beautiful irons that I have ever owned, I just felt that I was no consistent enough to use them.

Back to my cavity back babies and wont ever go near a blade/progressive club again.

I tried out a set of x-16 pros last year, the longer irons are so easy to hit though I was having bother turning my short irons over left. Im actually thinking of retrying them but changing the pw to a vokey 48 or 50.
My problem is that my rac's are rife 6.0s which I suspect are a little strong for my self restrained 3/4 swing which I mostly use. It would cost just as much to reshaft them as it would to replace the irons altogether.

Cavity backs for me aswell, why make the game harder for yourself unless you are a very good golfer.

Had a spoilt little s#!t in the shop with his wealthy daddy before christmas, he was playing off 26 and was insistant that he HAD to have a set of blades.

The assistant pro reccommended strongly against this but off to the range they went with a selection. The lad couldn't hit them for toffee-apples but he was telling his dad the pro was basically a tool for reccommending cavity backs. Idiots in my eyes.

Have to say however, there is nothing like the feel of a great strike when wielding a titleist blade, yum. One day I may be good enough.

See i was all up for getting them titleist 695mb, but MVP is going to be totally honest and say. YOU GUYS ARE PUTTING ME OFF.!!

I have picked the titleist blades up and hit them well, my pro even said they're an option for me, but short of having a set for a few months you cant tell. I might get the 735cm progressive set or the 755s. I originally wanted the 735cms but then changed over to 695mb. Iron play is pretty much my stronger point in my game, i hit my long irons well.

Any way better make my mind up cos im getting fitted Monday night!!

Why make a hard sport harder by using blades MVP? If you have your heart set on blades why dont you go for Ping irons and have blades for the short irons moving up to cavity backs long irons.

Not a criticism of MVP because he isn't the poser type.

A lot of people want blades so that they look good, it's the "all the gear - no idea" brigade again who think that looking the part will somehow buy them a better game of golf and make people think that they are something special.

Like the little turd I mentioned earlier in this thread, the basis of him wanting blades was so he looked like charlie big-bollocks infront of his little firm of like-minded mates.

The reason for my venom towards said little turd is that he was a spoilt little rich boy with an equally obnoxious toffee-nosed daddy and all they did was slag-off Steve the ass-pro (a friend of mine) on the range behind his back whilst cosying up to him in the shop before & after.
