Contemporary TV dramas

Nearly every new drama on TV is some kind of dark, gritty, psychological misery fest.

Is no-one commissioning comedy drama these days? Minder and Aufweidersehen Pet spring to mind as perfect examples of what I mean..

Don't people like to laugh now or do they prefer to bury themselves deep within a slough of despond?

Speaking personally my own life has plenty of grim reality to contend with which is why Broadchurch etc. leave me wanting to hurl a brick at my telly.

Agreed up to a point. Use to love the one offs and the Play For Today Series (that's aged me) was great. It's the nature of TV and it has to be "real" and "gritty"

I must admit, the moment I see something advertised as a gritty drama I tend to steer clear. Not for me but very fashionable at the present time.

Doc Martin, The Durrells but light drama and can be funny.

Broadchurch, Boy Blue, Three Girls, Line of Duty, Homeland, Last Kingdom, whats not to like about them. Very good drama and a change from the every day rubbish.
