Had an email from our club earlier today re changes to congu, most of which everyone probably knows about. They have probably only just scratched the surface but the bits I read about looked quite good. Changing hcap limits etc.Odd thing is for a few years we have asked why they don't do nine hole comps on the back nine, and was never really given a reasonable reply. Now it will be part of the norm. For me that is fantastic. 9/10 times we played the front nine of a comp and probably never played the back nine with the same intensity. So much so three of the back nine I never parred through the season.Read a bit about, if you get docked 0.1 for nine consecutive rounds your hcap will be reviewed. Summats like that, again gotta be good news.

The club will still have to organise 9 hole comps - the changes just mean that a 9 hole round can go towards a HC change , it doesn't suddenly increase the likelihood of clubs running 9 holes comps

Ours already does phil at least one every week, but they have never run them on the back nine, something they have now said they will do and what the members have wanted. I know some don't like nine hole comps but for those that don't have time for 18 holes midweek, a nine hole comp ticks a lot of boxes.

Ah that's good then

So do you start from the 10th tee then? Does your booking sysytem do 2 tee starts

Glad to ear about 9 hole comps possible h-cap cuts.We play a nine hole comp in the summer on a Tuesday night and it was all in,no divisions. And a 26 h-capper won it every week.if you did not score 25 points you were miles away.so our mob stopped entering as never had a chance.when you have to play scratch golf to stand a chance....

To be honest the email says it's something they have to look at in the respect of how they will do it. Like I mentioned all of the nine hole comps played the front nine and a times if was frustrating in the sense you could be held up by fourballs that only played the front nine and dawdled. You get to the tenth and the course is empty. It is like millionaires golf. Looking forward to it.

In NZ for the Summer months, read 7 months of the year we had what was called twilight golf that was a 9 hole comp that alternated front then back. It was always on a Tuesday evening so if you wanted to play 18 you had to make sure you were through the 9th by 3.30 pm on the back 9 days. These comps also counted for handicap .

Since 9-hole qualifiers were brought in, clubs have always had the ability to run 9-hole qualifiers on the front 9, back 9, or any combination of 9 holes. The club only had to apply for a SSS for any or all of the combinations of 9 holes.
