Congu 2016

Handicap Category Boundaries – It was agreed that no change would be made to the existing handicap category boundaries. However a new `Club Handicap` will be introduced for clubs who wish to allocate a handicap higher than 28/36 for use in club run events. This handicap will only be valid at the player’s home club and cannot be used in opens etc.

Interesting that this rumoured change isn't compulsory....How many clubs do you think will choose to do this?

Not a rumour, the document title says final decisions.

In the original draft proposals additional categories were being proposed. The wording is simply confirming it is not in the final version.

There has always been the facility for 'club' handicaps up to 54. The handicap software has this built in.

My club uses them for juniors coming out of the academy. We had thought of using them for some seniors who can no longer play to 28 but like to play in the seniors' roll ups. We put it on hold while CONGU was cogitating. We will now think again.

I suspect some clubs struggling for new members may like the idea as I reckon it will by promoted as part of the 'get into golf' marketing.

Sorry for confusion, I realise this is the the definitive rule from next year. I was referring to the thread a couple of weeks ago really where it was discussed on here (at some length) the rights and wrongs of allowing men's handicap up to 36 or 40 or whatever. I didn't realise it was already possible for anyone other than juniors. My thoughts are similar in that in attracting new members it may be a good marketing "pull" but I'd be surprised if many adopt it to be honest. We still have enough moaning about full handicap matchplay allowance, can't see this getting much track in our bar.

I attended one of the EnglandGolf handicap workshops in early April and we were informed that the additional categories had just been given the green light, so there has been a change of heart (or a case of cold feet).

There was quite a lot of feedback and a few CONGU meetings since.

What do people think the effect of including Cat 4s in the CSS calculation will have on CSS...?

Assuming no change to the formula and no special weighting for Cat 4s, I did a quick calculation on our last 7 comps. Result:

No Change – two
CSS down by 1- two
CSS up by 1 - three

If it's not too difficult to get at, what sort of field sizes and what proportion cat4?

Will the GUI have to implement these changes also or are the changes going to be different over different golfing unions or at their own discression ..
I appreciate the "club" handicap thingy is open to inclusion/exclusion

The only variation is the discretion to change the 'fixed' period for preferred lies.
I understand that all previous variations have now been standardised.

But not everyone plays all the comps nor scores such that their handicap record would be unaffected.

To me these results suggest significant change from current.

Wasn't the calculation ammended a few years back to try to keep CSS at SSS more often..?
By Rosie's workings CSS is going to move more often isn't it..?

Presumably that is why it is changing. Not a lot of point if it makes no difference.

Thank You ,

i was discussing it with some1 at the club who is involved with the GUI , he said wait until we hear from the GUI as they hadnt heard anything from them yet
