I have 150 plus albums, 200 plus tapes, 200 plus cd's, a Walkman tape player, an i-pod, 25 days of music on i-tunes, have windows media player, realplayer, DAB, internet radio, lastfm, I've dabbled with napster and torrents (sshh!) now we have spotify, which I am experimenting with!

And you know what. I still can't get some of the tracks that I'm after! :(

I used to be able to walk into Our Price or my local independant record shop (Woodys), and find almost anything. If I couldn't, they'd just order it for me. Easy, one format, record, one player, record player, and job done. Okay so we didn't have auto shuffle or playlists or 'Genius' recommends. But I listened to what I wanted when I wanted. Now It's just all on random as I can't choose what to listen to.

Remember putting on an album and listening to all the tracks? Don't have to anymore, and you could be missing some album gems.

Don't get me started on the hours wasted making 'mix tapes' for different 'moods'. Nearest we got to 'random' play!!

Progress eh!! :p

What's next years format? Regardless I still won't be able to get those tracks I'm after!!

I miss LP's I don't miss cassette tapes, they were the devils work & the quality was always rubbish, or muffled if we chose to use Dolby.

I quite like CD's as they are sort of a smaller compact version of LP's.But its the loss of the full sized LP/album artwork, that does my head in. 12 inches of artwork, that now has to be fitted into about 3 inches.

But with all these downloads available or compressed onto i-pods or similar, something valuble seems to have been lost from the listening experience. not just in the quality stakes. But there really was something quite special about sitting down on an evening with your favorite album on the record deck & letting it all flow over you.

Now its no more than testcard music in the background...

OurPrice, now there's a blast from the past. Never mind HMV, or Virgin, OurPrice was the leading light in the music sales world at one time.

That said if I want something rare or in LP format for that matter I can pop into Henry's records, in town & If he doesn't have it he can probably find a way of getting what I'm after, usually for a price...rofl.

Mostly 80's stuff. All released at some point.

Artis first, then track or album

Silent Running - Shades Of Lierty - Walk On Fire
One Too Many (One2Many) - Downtown
Kissing The Pink - Stand Up
Human Radio - Me And Elvis
This Island Earth - See That Glow
An Emotional Fish - Celebrate
Moist - Silver

That'll do.
Cheers.

You should see my sisters! (ooer) collection that is.
She must have about 700 or 800 CD's, a stack of LP's that could reach the roof, cassette tapes that would fill the boot of any car and you can be sure she too misses tracks or needs a variation on someones work.

Ah the 80's . I went from new romantic to skin head in 5 weeks (couldn't stand the kickings on the tube every Friday)> I've got some pretty obscure stuff (sorry HH I checked but none of your gear) and there was a record shop in Kingston (name escapes me) where you could listen to newly signed bands demo singles. I heard a demo of Wham (yes I know) working title Moonnlight (came out a few years later as Faith)

Hapless, i've got 2 x versions of Kissing the Pink - Stand Up and i also have This Island Earth - See That Glow.

TBH I thought that's what you were referring to as rubbish! The pop stuff. But great going though. Cheers.

I had KIP on 12" once.

Have you got all these digitally?

On another note if you're into a bit of early U2. Try Spotify, I've found some early remixes of Two Hearts and New years Day.

Know where you are coming from, my singles collection in the 80's had Rock, Metal Punk, Folk, New Romantic, Ska, Electronica & all sorts in it. All within a few years... BTW not in that order...lol

In the Mid 80's & Got heavily into Folk, Folk Rock & classic Rock, from the 60's & 70's
