Yesterday it was confirmed that NWGC will be closing at the end of March next year.

I have played here once before and it was a great little course with some quirky, fun holes.

Has anyone else played here? Thoughts on the closure?

I am writing an article on the pending closure so it'd be great if i could use some of your comments, so if you'd like to appear in the story please confirm it's ok below, preferably with your full name.

Thanks

Meant to say it's sad when a Club closes but others will benefit from this. I hear my Club is expecting 20+ new members because of this closure and I understand Fulford Heath is hoping for even more

I'm a North Worcestershire member and will be looking for a new club from April. Considering the twighlight deal at Harborne or possibly full membership at Kings Norton.

The course has been struggling for membership for some time. I joined in April 2012, just as the appalling wet summer started. The course is built on clay, and suffered really badly. Lots of members moved on. The club did a lot of drainage work later in the year and it's been ok since but membership has continued to decline.

Birmingham City Council tried to buy the course for housing in 2013 and build the club a new course within 5 miles, but the shareholding members voted overwhelmingly to decline the offer.

A year later they voted to accept an offer from Bloor Homes and close the course for good, not relocate. A pre-payment from Bloor allowed the course to stay open this year but it now closes on 31st March.

As you say, it's a nice little course with some quirky holes. I'll miss it because it's on my doorstep.

I'm at Hollywood (formerly Gay Hill). If you fancy a game there let me know.

I seen this on the bigga Facebook page other day the head greenkeeper posted it.

What happens with the money that the club has in the bank (if they have anything)

There's no money in the bank, but the money from Bloor Homes will be split amongst the shareholding members - about £60K each is the figure being bandied about. And before you ask, no I'm not unfortunately......

I've played it a few times and always enjoyed it. A mate of mine there stands to get £120,000 .Small change really when losing your local club.He may join us at Kenilworth in April.
