My game wasn't there to match it today. I haven't played in a comp for about a month and have played really well in most of the friendly rounds. No matter how hard I tried or concentrated on the shot in hand it didn't happen. I duffed at least 5 or 6 drives and chipping and putting was awful - but still managed 32 points and a gross 98.

So looking at the scores had my driving been even a little more consistent and putting to how I usually can, I could have been looking at a sub 90 round easily :(

Why is it like this? :D :D

I usually find the more confident I am going out especially after playing or practicing well in the run up, the more I have a bad round. I think there is a fine line between belief in your ability and arrogance about the form. Cross it and you tend to make silly mistakes and fritter shots away.

Maybe you set the expectation in the week and put pressure on yourself by thinking you will play well. A bit of tension crept in and hey-presto your back down to earth with a bang....welcome to my world and many others :)

I always find that the first thing to go out the window if I'm too confident is course management. I start to get far too greedy and aggressive, usually with disastrous consequences.

I think if truth be told the 5 or 6 drives that I duffed was probably because I tried to wellie 'em into next week! :(

When will I learn?

Don't worry, with me on your team to boost your confidence at Cooden, it will all come together. Well either that, or it will be the usual crap. At least you aren't playing with Smiffy. No one has ever broken 120 playing with Smiffy.

To be honest, I hate going into a round confident. I tend to get a bit ahead of myself and end up playing crap.

My philosophy is I'm only as good as my next round.

Possibly, maybe I was trying to get in the zone, but failed miserably. :(

Just want to add - you must go into a round with some confidence, surely! :D
