Could someone please point me in the direction of a document (i assume from Congu) that outlines which rules have to be met for a competiton to be a qualifier for handicap purposes.

I have found this document but not sure if it is the "full list" as such, im trying to debunk what I believe is a myth regarding bunkers and their state

http://www.congu.com/faqs/decisions.pdf

Thanks in advance

Not definitive, but....From what I understand, it's quite possible to run comps as qualifiers if there are 'a few' bunkers marked as GUR, but where the SSS of the course would likely be affected, then it becomes a NQ comp. I believe more than half a dozen is/would be about that point.

Contacting your Area Authority could well be the fastest way to get a definitive answer from available documentation. They are normally pretty 'on the ball' with such issues - and you shouldn't need to mention the Club involved.

Thanks for that foxholer, is 6 "your number" or does it come from somewhere "official"

I remember reading it somewhere, but can't remember the exact context - whether/how definitive or indicative etc. I believe the important issue is whether it would affect SSS - as taking some bunkers out of play would have more effect than taking others out. FWIW, I don't believe simply taking 2 or 3 out of play would justify changing it to NQ.

Area Authority is your best reference point though.

Reason for the ask is 2 is the number thats been quoted to me and found that unbelievably few, will ask him for clarification

If more than 10% of the bunkers on our course would be marked GUR (about 7) then they are all taken out of play and the comp becomes NQ.
