I suffer with this. Try and deal with it by only focusing on the actual shot at the time

no need to concentrate the whole time. just for small internvals. My regular PP knows when to stop talking as I do with them, then its concentrate for on t eh shot then back to the usual chatter.

Basically once I pull the club from the bag its all about the shot, then back to how crap manu are once its hit.

i found my concentration went after about nine holes ,but i sorted out my problem by taking more drink on the course with me ,i was getting a little dehydrated and my concentration would be the first thing that went ,swiftly followed by my game .
so my advice take a couple of cans of red bull with you and make sure you have drunk them by the 12th hole.

Red Bull is horrible, and extremely addictive. It makes you fat and rots your teeth. The idea of increasing your fluid intake is correct though, I suggest cider

Drinking cider doesn't increase fluids - will help you dehydrate.

I usually switch off between shots and chat with my playing partners, then when I get to the ball, I focus on my shot, look for my target, yardage, club etc, and then when it's my turn to play, I take my shot. Small amounts of concentration required at a time not looking to concentrate for the whole round, just wee slots along the way.
I do take a bottle of water and some fruit or nuts or both as I tend to have a healthy appetite and thirst plus it stops me thinking of food as I play ;)

I just don't get it. every shot poses a different problem. The problem doesn't just appear quickly out of nowhere. I have to walk all the way up to it. Scratch my chin briefly thinking what is my next move then play the shot.

Take a practice swing or two to focus the mind over the shot but losing concentration shouldn't really be something that pops up.

After 4 or 5 holes I'm usually thinking, come on man keep it up or come on man you can do better than this crap.

The only thing I can think of is will to play. That can drop off if playing poorly but more often than not I try to say to myself, a new hole a new chance to play well.

Guessing you missed the humour/sarcasm there?

I rarely play a round without taking at least a litre of water with me.

After the seeing the posts from the poster previously about drinking whilst playing golf then it's a tough call that it was an attempt at humour

Eat a banana after nine holes. Sounds stupid, but for me it always works. Not just because it keeps my energy level up. I also get the feeling that giving the body something else to work on besides golf helps me to get the focus back. Oh, and breathing. Breathing is always a very good idea :)

I use the rule that once the club is out the bag, it's time to switch on and give it your full attention. Whether it's a good or bad shot, once the club is back in the bag it's all about the next shot. Or finding where the ball went. Usually the latter

I don't get it. When you say you lose concentration, what is it you are losing concentration on?

If I read between the lines, I imagine this means you feel like you are playing well for the first 5 holes but struggle to maintain momentum / mistakes creep in. If this is the case, I would recommend a pre-shot routine (missed the 'o' key one the left initially!!!).
It doesn't need to be anything complicated, actually the simpler the better. I remember reading about Louis Oosthuizen the year he won the Open. He drew a red dot in the thumb of his glove, every time he looked at that spot meant he was in game mode but after every shot he would relax and let his mind wander.

Everyone is going to struggle concentrating all the time on a golf course. That would be 4 hours of concentration. I don't think it would be realistic to expect our bodies and minds to be able to perform that sort of task.

TO be fair though, you need to find what works for you.
