After a huge swing change I'm playing really well now but my big problem is concentration by about 5 or 6 holes in my head is gone I don't read putts properly forget to to take practice swings or account for wind etc. e.g on the ninth yesterday I had a 10 footer for birdie didn't read the green and just hit it about 5 foot passed then went for a one handed putt and missed didn't even register I had a birdie chance till on the next tee. STUPID!

any tips to keep concentration throughout the entire round? only thing that has worked for me is playing with new people who a really good and serious but can't play with people like that all the time.

Thanks

Just finished reading my first Bob Rotella book.

A lot of emphasis put on establishing a pre-shot routine. You start with a trigger such as tapping your chosen club 3 times before taking it out of the bag. This reminds you that it's time to perform your routine (i.e. concentrate).

Your routine can then consist of whatever works for you, but I reckon having a trigger to remind you to concentrate could help you.

To add to this is don't try to concentrate on your golf game for the whole time. You only need to concentrate on golf for about a minute at a time while you take your shot, then, while your walking along, chat to your playing partner, look at the scenery or anything that isn't about golf. To concentrate on your game for 4 plus hours will tire you out mentally and I think this is part of your problem.

Totally agree with this.Humans find it hard to concentrate for hours on end.Concentrate on your shot when you get to your ball until you hit it,then let it go and enjoy the walk until you arrive at the next shot.

Personally, I wouldn't try and concentrate the whole round.

I've recently adopted a mantra regarding my golf glove..... Bear with me.

When my glove is on, I concentrate. When I take it off between shots, I let my mind wander.

After I hit a shot, the glove comes off. I take in the scenery, listen to the birds, have a laugh with my playing partners, you get the idea.

When I'm approaching my ball, the glove goes on and I'm "back in the room" so to speak.

I have a different trigger for putting (As I take my glove off to putt)

I found concentrating the whole 18 holes, even between shots, a bit too much. As I say, I'm trialing the glove thing just now and, to be honest, I quite like it

I don't want you to take this the wrong way but what you did on the ninth wasn't due to lack of concentration it was careless, pure and simple. Who putts one handed from 5 feet?

is being careless not the same as not concentrating? seems pretty similar to me anyway

Not when you're putting one handed from 5 feet. I'll give you not reading the green as lack of concentration - just, but putting 1 handed from 5 feet is careless in my book

There's 'not concentrating' but one handed putting from 5 feet is a touch of the Hennie Otto's (google his 6 putt if you don't know it).

Again don't take this the wrong way, but if you saw a pro do that you'd say it was brainless - and you'd be right. I had a 4 putt the other day in a similar manner.
